A Blast Hole Driller operates heavy drilling equipment to create precise holes in rock or earth for the placement of explosives in mining, quarrying, or construction projects. The role requires strict adherence to safety protocols and regular equipment maintenance.
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Blast Hole Driller to operate and maintain drilling rigs for our contract drilling operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for drilling holes according to specific patterns and depths to facilitate controlled blasting.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate Drilling Equipment: Safely and efficiently operate surface drilling rigs (e.g., rotary, percussion, DTH drills) to bore blast holes to specified locations and depths as per drill patterns and engineering specifications.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and MSHA/OSHA regulations. Participate in safety meetings and contribute to a safe working environment.
- Maintenance and Inspection: Perform daily pre-shift inspections and routine preventative maintenance (greasing, fluid checks, minor repairs) on the assigned drill rig and ancillary equipment.
- Documentation and Reporting: Accurately prepare and maintain daily production reports, maintenance records, and drilling logs.
- Site Coordination: Coordinate effectively with the Quarry Supervisor, Blaster, and other crew members to ensure seamless and efficient operations.
- Site Preparation: Assist with site layout and safely maneuver the drill to designated locations within the quarry or job site.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of verifiable experience as a blast hole drill operator.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver's license (CDL class A preferred) and relevant certifications such as MSHA part 46/48 Training certification.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating various drilling rigs and using digital control panels or GPS guidance systems is a plus. Knowledge of basic mechanical and hydraulic systems is essential for troubleshooting.
- Physical Demands: Must have the physical stamina and strength to work in demanding outdoor conditions for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Other Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills are crucial for this role.
Pay: $24.00 - $33.00 per hour
Expected hours: 50.0 – 70.0 per week
