Overview
We are currently hiring Tank & Bilge Cleaning Technicians to support ship maintenance operations at the United States Coast Guard Yard. This is a physically demanding, safety-sensitive role. The ideal candidate should have a strong work ethic and prior industrial or shipyard experience. PAY WILL BE GREATER IF YOU HAVE A CDL LICENSE!
Responsibilities
- Perform basic to advanced cleaning techniques, bilge maintenance cleaning/pumping operations, general pumping operations, tank/void cleaning, gas free certification preparation and pumping to include but not limited to bilges, tanks, voids, pier services, various compartments & other containers that may contain fluids that are undesirable to the customer or for retention for the customer's intent to re-use. Fluids to pump include but are not limited to fresh water, portable water, contaminated seawater, compensating seawater, seawater, chill water, oily waste, oil, fuel, greywater, black water and neutralized chlorine water.
- Operate cleaning tools and follow strict safety protocols.
- Support general labor and maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Assess and execute hose runs from pier to the designated pumping area onboard the vessel.
- Strictly adhere to corporate, federal, state, and local safety/ OSHA regulations.
- Implement and follow the company's safety, quality, and environmental policies.
- Ability to follow basic functions to include hose setups, air connections, tank/void cleaning and bilge cleaning/pumping & tank/void watch to include frack tank/ tanker truck watch.
- Able to obtain and maintain access to military and government installations.
- Involves reaching with arms, stretching, crawling, heavy lifting, frequent stooping or bending and working assignments in confined spaces or beneath machinery in hot or cold conditions.
- Operating and maintaining all company-provided tank cleaning and servicing equipment.
- Operating and regulating company-assigned air monitoring equipment, properly.
- Utilizing proper Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
Requirements
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, including marijuana.
- Must be able to pass a background check required for access to the United States Coast Guard Yard.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be able to show up on time to work each day.
- Must have the willingness to train.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must be able to work weekends & nights as needed.
- Must be able to work in extreme work environments and conditions, including working in confined spaces (no claustrophobia/ fear of heights).
- Must have a positive attitude and the ability to communicate with supervisors and other crew members.
- Must be willing to work overtime when emergencies come in or there is a full schedule.
- Employee is directly responsible for assisting in the establishment and implementation of all safety practices on a per job basis.
- Must be physically capable of instituting such practices, without posing a threat to the health and safety of themselves and/or colleagues.
- Previous shipyard/ industrial cleaning experience preferred.
