Essential Functions

  • Ability to perform generally expected instructional/teaching activities through various mediums including, but not limited to, in-person, web-based, or hybrid.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate the subject matter using a variety of methods to accommodate different learning styles that enhances the opportunity of students to achieve the learning outcomes expected. Block III requires OB experience.
  • Effective record-keeping strategies that comply with College directives and provide timely and correct information to students.
  • Ability to provide effective assistance in ancillary educational programs and services as may be needed by the College to enhance the educational opportunities and experiences for students.
  • Ability to perform general physical activities that require considerable use of arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate equipment, instruments, and people. Some whole-body movement such as lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, carrying objects, and handling material.

Level of Supervision or Independent Judgement

  • Performs duties under moderate supervision from higher-level academic administrators to ensure cohesive and consistent academic rigor and quality of programs, courses, and educational opportunities provided.
  • Exercise independent decision making concerning the class environment and instructional methods/delivery within the umbrella of academic freedom and the College’s quality education guidance and directives.

Duties and Responsibilities

Faculty are expected to perform any or all duties listed below in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.

General Faculty Duties:

  • Assume responsibility for teaching a minimum of 15 adjusted load hours per semester, 30 per year.
  • Teach an overload of up to ten (10) adjusted load hours per semester as assigned by the appropriate academic administrator. Individual overload in excess of ten (10) adjusted load hours should be rare and require review and approval by the College President or appropriately designated personnel.
  • Develop, review, and update courses and curriculum collaboratively with faculty and academic administration.
  • Develop and update informative, standardized syllabus for student guidance.
  • Develop and administer appropriate tools and measures for assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program levels. Update course delivery and teaching methods based on evaluation of objectives assessed as needed.
  • Post and maintain at least five (5) approved office hours per week, per semester at times and days that are beneficial for student engagement.
  • Each semester during pre-semester planning periods, faculty will complete a weekly schedule of instructional and instructional related activities (IRA), including the five office hours noted above, and submit this schedule to academic administration for review and approval. Instruction times and office hours will be scheduled and followed without deviation except for sickness, emergency, or other appropriately approved absences. The scheduling of IRA may vary and should represent typical and reasonable amounts each week. Post the schedule when approved.
  • Post a Final Exam Schedule for finals week with at least five (5) office hours over three days.
  • Serve on College standing committees, ad hoc committees, and/or sponsor clubs or other student organizations. These responsibilities may be voluntary or assigned.
  • Verify attendance and participation as directed by academic administration. Submit complete and accurate rolls and grades by specified deadlines.
  • Attend commencement activities, participate fully in Fall and Spring semester convocation and planning activities, perform committee service, and participate in continuing education, in-service training, continuous improvement, and/or accreditation activities, as necessary. Absences or requests for release from these activities must be communicated to and approved by appropriate academic leadership.
  • Faculty, out of necessity, will work a flexible or non-traditional schedule to provide optimal student success opportunities. Exempt employees are not required to work a set number of hours as long as responsibility and performance expectations are met. The expectation of College leadership is that full-time employees will work at least 40 hours per week. Faculty may utilize a hybrid work environment with at least 60% of their instructional and IRA responsibilities performed on campus. Student engagement and success and in-person communication and collaboration should be the guiding principles of successful hybrid work activities.
  • Fulfill other assignments appropriate with training, experience, or interest as directed by the College President or appropriately designated personnel.
  • Perform similar duties not specifically listed as directed.

Nursing Program Expectations/Duties:

Position Overview: Gila Community College is seeking a dedicated and experienced nursing professional to join our faculty team. The Full-Time Nursing Faculty will be responsible for delivering high-quality nursing education to students, preparing them for successful careers in healthcare. This role involves teaching, curriculum development, student advising, and participating in departmental and college-wide initiatives.

Teaching and Instruction:

  • Develop and deliver course content for various nursing subjects, including lectures, labs, and clinical instruction. Block III requires OB experience.
  • Utilize diverse teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and promote student engagement.
  • Assess and evaluate student performance through exams, assignments, and practical assessments.

Curriculum Development:

  • Participate in the development, review, and updating of nursing curriculum to ensure it meets current industry standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practice and current research into course materials.
  • Align curriculum with state and national nursing education standards.

Student Advising and Mentorship:

  • Assist with academic advising and career guidance to nursing students.
  • Support students in their academic and professional development.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Clinical Coordination and Supervision:

  • Coordinate and supervise student clinical placements.
  • Ensure clinical experiences meet educational objectives and provide valuable hands-on learning.
  • Maintain relationships with clinical sites and preceptors.

Professional Development and Collaboration:

  • Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with nursing education and practice trends.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on departmental projects, committees, and college initiatives.
  • Contribute to the accreditation process and other quality improvement efforts.

Community and College Service:

  • Participate in community outreach and partnership activities.
  • Engage in college service activities, including committee work and faculty meetings.
  • Represent the nursing program at college and community events.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • A combination of education, training and experience that meets the appropriate credentialing guidelines for the instructional area. Block III requires OB experience.
  • Ability to pass a background screening process and/or obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card is necessary.
  • Master’s Degree - Nursing (MSN) is required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience clinical nursing experience providing direct patient care.
  • Current RN license in the state of Arizona that is in good standing.

Work Environment

Duties are performed in a classroom and/or skills lab environment using standard and specialized technologies and equipment. Operation of technologies and equipment involves the ability to manipulate objects from light to moderate weight using repetitive motion fine motor and some gross motor skills. Safe operation of motor vehicles involving both fine and gross motor skills may be expected. Limited exposure to loud noise and hazardous chemicals or other job environment hazards is expected.
