Clinical Laboratory Scientist I

About the Role

We are seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist I to join our laboratory team in Madison, Wisconsin. In this role, you will perform moderate and highly complex laboratory testing on clinical specimens while ensuring compliance with quality standards, regulatory requirements, and laboratory procedures.

This position is ideal for candidates with laboratory experience who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment focused on quality, accuracy, and patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Testing & Analysis

  • Perform moderate and highly complex laboratory testing according to established procedures and protocols.
  • Process clinical specimens and accurately document testing activities.
  • Prepare reagents and materials required for laboratory testing.
  • Review, perform, and document quality control procedures.
  • Meet productivity and turnaround time (TAT) expectations.

Equipment & Laboratory Operations

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Assist with testing, validation, and implementation of new laboratory equipment and procedures.
  • Monitor inventory levels and maintain adequate laboratory supplies.
  • Identify and resolve routine issues that may impact test performance or laboratory operations.

Quality & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with laboratory regulations, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives and inspection readiness activities.
  • Support the laboratory's Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Ensure data security, patient confidentiality, and ethical laboratory practices.
  • Identify quality or safety concerns and communicate them appropriately.

Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with laboratory staff, management, and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new laboratory personnel as needed.
  • Participate in continuing education, staff meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, accountability, and a commitment to teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Laboratory Science, Biological Science, Chemical Science, or related field from an accredited institution; OR
  • Equivalent laboratory education and experience meeting applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Professional working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or related scientific discipline.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques and principles.
  • Experience working in a clinical, diagnostic, or regulated laboratory environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to perform repetitive laboratory tasks and operate laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to work with computers, tablets, and laboratory information systems.

Work Environment

This position may involve exposure to biological specimens, including blood, blood products, tissue samples, and other potentially hazardous materials. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety procedures are required at all times.
