Works under the direction of the Recreation Program Manager to plan, promote, organize, implement, a wide range of adult programs, events, classes, and trips for the City of Germantown.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: College degree in related field and two years recreation programming experience or any combination of education, training, and experience providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform essential job functions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Certified Parks & Recreation Professional through the National Parks & Recreation Association and the Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association preferred. Valid Driver’s License. CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification, or the ability to attain within six months of hire.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Plans, develops, organizes, and promotes a wide range of senior adult programs and activities to meet community needs and interest including enrichment classes, events, and trips for the City of Germantown.
- Plans, organizes and coordinates day and overnight trips for senior adults; accompanies senior adults on trips.
- Coordinates activities at designated locations and facilities for all programs and special events; scheduling use of facilities for programs, classes, and events for the senior population.
- Secures qualified instructors, both paid and volunteer, to conduct programs and classes.
- Confers with different vendors and recommends vendor for contract to provide a variety of entertainment services, accommodations, transportation, and other activities necessary to provide planned recreational activities for the senior adult population.
- Evaluates community needs and interests in order to plan, organize, and implement programs, classes, and events for the senior adult population.
- Regularly evaluates the effectiveness of programs, events, activities, and vendors and recommends changes accordingly.
- Purchases or requisitions materials and supplies, monitor revenue and expenditures within the approved budget, and prepare budget proposals for areas of responsibility.
- Prepares check requests for payment.
- Collects daily activity fees, processes and receipts fees into recreation management software.
- Performs physical set up and clean up of program supplies and equipment which includes tables and chairs, decorations, and opening and/or closing of Pickering Center as needed.
- Prepares daily coffee services and snacks; replenishes supplies as needed throughout the day.
- Develops and distributes marketing materials for programs such as flyers, posters, written descriptions for the City’s publication, input program detail onto the city’s calendar and publish a monthly Senior newsletter.
- Promotes all programs utilizing resources within the community such as speaking engagements, the media, social media, city website, sends email blasts and other suitable means.
- Attends functions to direct activities and monitor the safety of patrons.
- Prepares and maintains reports and records on program activities for management review.
- Addresses general inquiries, requests or complaints from the public concerning programming, activities and rentals.
- Inspects the condition of facilities and equipment and reports maintenance needs.
- May assist with other Parks and Recreation Department activities or City sponsored events.
- Perform related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the activities that make up a community recreation program and the methods and techniques of program planning.
- Knowledge of public relations principles and techniques.
- Knowledge of City purchasing policies and procedures.
- Skill in communicating in writing and in person on a one-on-one basis and before groups for the purpose of influencing, motivating and convincing.
- Ability to maintain a cooperative attitude and willingness to respond effectively to the public.
- Ability to maintain accurate accounting records and prepare detailed reports.
- Skill in using desktop publishing software.
- Skill in planning, developing and coordinating recreation programs to meet community needs and interests.
- Ability to work independently and to plan and organize projects.
