Manages the accounting and financial operations of a unit, department or agency. Recommends and implements accounting policies and procedures in accordance with government regulations. Directs subordinate supervisors and staff.
Role And Responsibilities
- Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and reconciling financial transactions.
- Recommending and implementing accounting policies and procedures in accordance with federal and state laws, guidelines and regulations.
- Ensuring accurate and timely federal financial reporting.
- Championing operational and financial improvement opportunities and initiatives.
- Supervise assigned Grant Accountants and responsible for managing staff's work.
- Manage the recording, maintenance, reporting and control of agency awarded federal, state and locally funded grants posted to the general ledger and is responsible for producing accurate monthly and annual financial reporting for assigned programs.
- Provide technical assistance; advises on accounting matters; interprets State Fiscal Rules, changes in federal regulations and grant requirements; and implements State and Federal administrative accounting policies and procedures in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Interact with agency administrative staff, professional accountants, auditors and representatives of financial institutions on accounting and fiscal related matters as a grant accounting liaison for assigned programs.
- Monitor and analyze monthly grant performance; develops and maintains processes, worksheets, and reports to meet the needs of grant management and division staff; and verifies accuracy of account codes posted in the TeamWorks Financial Reporting System.
- Create and maintain a high performance environment characterized by positive leadership and a strong team orientation.
- Remain abreast of current trends and developments in the accounting field.
- Perform complex financial analysis and projects as requested by management.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles.

- Bachelor's degree in accounting AND three (3) years of professional accounting job-related experience, which includes one (1) year in a supervisory role;
- Two (2) years of experience at the lower level Accountant Supervisor (FIP024) or equivalent position.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Experience using an ERP System for data retrieval, queries, and system output reports.
- Experience preparing federal reports or financial statements.
- Experience analyzing and reconciling complex accounting data and transactions.
