LOCATION: Georgetown Public Schools
SUPERVISOR: Director of Student Services
ANNUAL SALARY: Salary and benefits per Georgetown Education Association contract.
START DATE: August 31, 2026
WORK YEAR: 184 days, the school year & professional development days
GENERAL
The Special Education Evaluation Team Chairperson coordinates the special education evaluation process, facilitates Team meetings, and ensures compliance with federal and state regulations related to special education services. The Chairperson collaborates with general education teachers, special education staff, related service providers, school administrators and families to determine eligibility, develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and monitor service delivery for students with disabilities. Key responsibilities include the following areas:
Facilitation of Team Meetings
Schedule, organize, and facilitate special education Team meetings, including Initial evaluations, Eligibility determinations, Annual reviews, Three-year reevaluations, Manifestation determinations
Ensure meetings are collaborative and that all team members and parents have an opportunity to participate.
Guide the Team in developing appropriate and measurable IEP goals, accommodations, and service delivery.
Compliance and Regulations
Ensure compliance with federal law under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and state special education regulations.
Monitor timelines for Evaluations, IEP development, Progress reporting, Reevaluations
Ensure proper documentation and adherence to procedural safeguards.
Evaluation Coordination
Coordinate the evaluation process for referred students, including Reviewing referral information, Determining appropriate assessments and assigning evaluation responsibilities to specialists
Ensure evaluation reports are completed and available for Team review.
IEP Development and Oversight
Lead the team in determining eligibility for special education services, developing IEPs that address identified needs, determining appropriate placement in the least restrictive environment (LRE) and review IEPs for quality, clarity, and compliance.
Collaboration and Consultation
Data Review and Student Progress
Review evaluation data, classroom performance, and progress monitoring information.
Assist teams in making data-based decisions regarding services and placement.
Program Coordination
Support the development and implementation of special education programming.
Assist in coordinating services across classrooms and programs.
Additional Responsibilities
Provide guidance regarding instructional supports, accommodations, and service delivery models.
Communicate regularly with families regarding the special education process.
Provide professional guidance to staff regarding IEP development and special education procedures.
Assist in resolving concerns or disagreements related to special education services.
Maintain confidentiality of student records.
Support professional development for special educators around IEP development
Perform additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.

QUALIFICATIONS
Leadership or supervisory experience.
Experience facilitating Team meetings and coordinating evaluations.
Professional understanding of individual student learning styles.
Ability to successfully collaborate with colleagues.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to facilitate teams; ability to work well with administration, teachers, students, parents, and community Members
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Master’s Degree.
MADESE certification as a Special Education Teacher or related field or Administrator of Special Education
SEI Endorsement, preferred
Experience in special education instruction or service delivery.
Knowledge of special education law, evaluation procedures, and IEP development.
