POSITION:Occupational Therapy Assistant
LOCATION: Georgetown Public Schools
SUPERVISOR:Director of Student Services, Occupational Therapist
START DATE: July 6, 2026
HOURS/WEEK:
HOURLY RATE:$35.00 to $40.00 per hour
DUTIES: An Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) implements treatment plans designed by a licensed Occupational Therapist to help patients develop, recover, and maintain daily living skills after illness, injury, or disability. Their duties include guiding patients through therapeutic exercises, teaching the use of adaptive equipment, documenting patient progress, and educating families on care. OTAs provide hands-on care to children a school setting. Perform other related duties if needed, and any other duties directed by the Director of Student Services.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver Treatment:
•Implement individualized plans created by an Occupational Therapist (OT) to help patients improve skills needed for daily activities.
Provide Hands-On Care:
•Guide patients through therapeutic exercises and activities to enhance motor skills and cognitive function.
Monitor and Document Progress:
•Observe patients' performance during activities, document their progress, and report findings to the OT.
Educate Patients and Families:
•Provide training and education on the treatment plan and techniques to promote self-sufficiency and encourage a patient's recovery.
Manage Therapy Sessions:
•Prepare treatment areas and equipment, ensuring the environment is clean and ready for patient sessions.
Collaborate with the Team:
•Work closely with the OT, other healthcare specialists, and patient families to coordinate care and make necessary adjustments to the treatment plan.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•State of Massachusetts licensure as an Occupational Therapy Assistant
•Familiarity with a variety of equipment, including computer software
•Strong communication skills
•Works cooperatively with co-workers demonstrating respect, trust, and support.
•Demonstrates mutual understanding and respect of the relationship between supervising occupational therapist and OTA.
•Establishes and maintains rapport with patients by recognizing others’ values and adapting interactions to build trust.
•Actively engaged in own professional development reflecting on opportunities for growth in collaboration with supervising occupational therapist and other resources. • Organization, time management, flexibility, and positive attitude.
•Makes decisions based on objective principles and values.
•Must be able to work independently and make sound judgments as to prioritizing projects and takes
•Must be able to work with administration, faculty, and the public and follow oral/written directions as required.
•Previous public school work or municipal experience preferred.
