Job Summary
We are on the lookout for an energetic and detail-oriented Logistics and Fleet Manager to lead our supply chain operations and fleet management efforts. In this role, you'll be the driving force behind efficient operation of transportation and distribution activities within the organization. Qualification and Training
Knowledge of transportation scheduling and optimization, mechanical, vehicle, and truck maintenance knowledge is required, as well as the desire to work both independently, and with others. The ability to make appropriate mathematical calculations and timely decisions is necessary for job performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Fleet and Driver Management:
- Manage the organization's fleet of vehicles, including trucks, vans, and other transport assets. This involves scheduling maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure vehicles are safe, reliable, and compliant with regulations.
- Ensure drivers remain compliant with all Hours of Service (HOS) regulations. prepare the driver’s trip packages to include delivery documents, directions, warehouse keys, pick up locations, required trip report forms and expense money.
Route Planning and Optimization:
- Develop and implement efficient transportation routes to minimize fuel consumption, reduce delivery times, and optimize resource utilization. Utilize routing software and real-time data to adjust routes as needed.
Inventory Management:
- Collaborate with inventory and warehouse teams to coordinate the movement of goods from suppliers to distribution centers and ultimately to customers. Maintain accurate inventory records and implement strategies to minimize stockouts and excess inventory.
Compliance and Safety:
- Stay abreast of transportation regulations and safety standards to ensure compliance at all levels of operation. Implement training programs and protocols to promote safe driving practices and prevent accidents.
- Be or become knowledgeable with the following programs and documentation and their application (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, IFTA Fuel Tax monitoring and compliance, PA Dept. of Transportation Safety Regulations). Review with the Food Safety Coordinator to ensure all transportation meets food safety standards.
Cost Management:
- Develop and manage budgets for transportation and logistics operations in conjunction with the Director of Warehousing and Logistics, identifying cost-saving opportunities and implementing strategies to optimize spending without sacrificing service quality.
Performance Monitoring and Analysis:
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery rates, fuel efficiency, and maintenance costs. Analyze data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities to enhance operational efficiency.
3rd Party Logistics:
- Maintain a pool of for-hire carriers to supplement the company’s truck fleet (LTL carriers). This requires regular communication with sales reps, monitoring price fluctuations, and reviewing and approving invoices for payment.
- Regular reviews of the carrier’s performance and following up on delivery discrepancies, damages, and on-time deliveries are required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., Certified Supply Chain Professional) is a plus. Or equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
- Proven experience in logistics, transportation, or fleet management, with a demonstrated ability to oversee complex operations and drive continuous improvement.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across departments and lead a team of logistics professionals.
- Proficiency in transportation management software, route optimization tools, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry’s best practices is essential.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to improve performance and achieve strategic objectives.
Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
