The Gentle Barn Foundation is seeking a dedicated and highly responsible Ranch Animal Care – Medical Treatment Specialist to join our team. This vital role focuses on providing daily individualized medical treatments and compassionate care to our rescued animals. The ideal candidate will report directly to the National Barn Manager and Founder and play a key role in maintaining the health, comfort, and well-being of the animals in our care. Responsibilities:
- Support the healing and rehabilitation of new rescues and resident animals
- Administer medications and supplements when needed
- Maintain inventory of medications and supplies
- Transport animals to veterinarian facilities as needed
- Schedule and monitor practitioners/veterinarians while they are with the animals
- Purchase and pick up feed and/or supplies on a regular basis or when needs arise
- Maintain animal care documentation and photographic updates
- Proactively provide timely and accurate communication regarding animal health to management
- Safely handle and restrain animals during treatments and procedures
- Report potential safety concerns to management
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
The following is required for the ideal candidate:
- Prior animal medical knowledge is a plus
- Management experience
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrates compassion, kindness, and respect toward both animals and people
- Must have large animal experience
- Must have horse experience
- Ability to exemplify both discretion and confidentiality
- Support the organization’s philosophy and advocate our positions on issues professionally
- Must be able to work varying hours based on the needs of the organization
- Maintain a plant-based lifestyle while on property
- Valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements:
- Lifting weight (feed, animals, equipment as needed)
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Standing/walking long hours
