Additionally, the campus houses the Stuart Steiner Performing Arts Center, Roz Steiner Art Gallery, Alfred C. O'Connell Library and Child Care Center. The Richard C. Job Description
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

The Instructional Designer (ID) is a professional position providing high-level academic guidance and direct curricular and instructional design support to full time, part time and adjunct faculty teaching online and technology-enhanced courses. The ID will provide instructional design training and coordinate support activities for faculty through group and individual consultation at all college locations and online. The ID will participate in the research and application of emerging technologies and well-established curricular models for online teaching and learning, and consult with various college stakeholders on incorporating current processes and best practices into course design and redesign efforts.

The ID will contribute to/develop curriculum and instructional design resources, tools, and learning activities, in conjunction with college faculty, when appropriate. The successful candidate will support faculty with online-asynchronous, online-synchronous, hybrid, and HyFlex course modalities, as well as will be expected to keep current with new technological developments in the field of online education methodology and technology.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with faculty in creating, offering, and/or redesigning online, hybrid, and HyFlex courses and learning activities.
  • Stay current with instructional design, educational evaluation, assessment, and learning analysis processes and practices.
  • Possess an understanding of content, theory, and methods for delivering academic content in an online or technology-enhanced environment.
  • Understand and provide support for meeting accessibility standards, expectations, and best practices within online and technology-enhanced environments.
  • Mentor, train, and advise faculty at all GCC locations in effective online and technology-enhanced course design and re-design standards.
  • Assist faculty, departments, and programs interested in transitioning face-to-face courses/programs into online-asynchronous, online-synchronous, online-combined, HyFlex, and/or hybrid college offerings.
  • Work with Institutional Research and Academic Affairs in course- and program-level assessment and accreditation-related activities.
  • Work with all appropriate staff and faculty to embed student persistence and retention initiatives into online courses.
  • Offer instructional design-related training and workshops for online or technology-enhanced learning activities, as appropriate.
  • Consult with the BEST Center and ACE on credit and noncredit course/workshop design for new and existing partnerships, training programs, and learning activities for specialized populations.
  • Assist Computer Services with faculty, staff, and student training in course management system use/navigation, new instructional technologies, and classroom delivery modalities, when appropriate.
  • Be willing to perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Online Learning.


Job Requirements:
EDUCATION:

Bachelor's or Associate's degree required. A Master's degree in Curriculum Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Technologies, or a related field is strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
  • A minimum of three years' experience (or five with an Associate's) in an educational or technology training setting required.
  • Experience in adult learning theory, instructional design, educational training, or working with subject area experts in technology-enhanced learning environments required.
  • Experience working in a postsecondary online learning environment serving a diverse student population preferred.
  • Experience with the use of online course design standards in an online teaching and learning environment. Experience with the SUNY OSCQR or other national standards in online course design preferred.
  • Experience with common learning management systems preferred.
  • Experience teaching in an online learning environment preferred.

  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; with an appreciative inquiry approach to work.
  • Understand current accessibility standards and best practices for quality online instruction.
  • Expertise in a variety of media and multimedia content, tools, and materials preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a commitment to diversity
  • Is mindful of and develops accessibility solutions that can accommodate all individuals to use GCC facilities without barriers, both digitally and physically.


Additional Information:
RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Director of Online Learning.

The Instructional Designer will work closely with deans, curriculum developers, faculty, and other content area experts, student and enrollment services personnel, Institutional Research, Computer Services, Campus Centers, BEST Center, and other GCC staff. The ID will also collaborate with college librarians, Media Services, graphics specialists, and multimedia developers for the consistent delivery of exemplary online and technology-enhanced courses and distance learning services.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time,12-month position and is compensated at $43,868.98. Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment are set by the GEA contract.
