Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Maintenance Mechanic Painter to join our team. The Maintenance Mechanic Painter is responsible for painting, refinishing, and maintaining the appearance of interior and exterior building surfaces, equipment, and fixtures. The ideal candidate has experience preparing surfaces, selecting appropriate coatings, and applying paint using a variety of techniques to produce high-quality, durable finishes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare interior and exterior surfaces for painting by cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, and priming.
- Apply paint, stain, varnish, sealers, and other protective coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
- Remove old paint and damaged finishes to ensure proper surface preparation.
- Repair minor wall imperfections, including filling cracks, holes, and other surface defects.
- Mix paints, stains, and coatings to achieve the required color, texture, and consistency.
- Paint walls, ceilings, doors, trim, cabinets, woodwork, metal surfaces, and other building components.
- Protect surrounding surfaces by covering furniture, floors, fixtures, and equipment before painting.
- Inspect completed work to ensure a high-quality finish and compliance with project specifications.
- Maintain painting tools, spray equipment, and work areas in clean and safe operating condition.
- Estimate material needs and assist with inventory of paints, coatings, and supplies.
- Follow all safety procedures when working with ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and painting materials.
- Comply with company policies, environmental regulations, and applicable safety standards.
- Perform other maintenance and repair duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience as a commercial, industrial, residential, or maintenance painter.
- Knowledge of surface preparation methods, painting techniques, and coating applications.
- Experience using brushes, rollers, spray equipment, and other painting tools.
- Ability to safely handle paints, solvents, and related materials.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, specifications, and safety instructions.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent combination of training and work experience.
- Experience in facility maintenance, commercial construction, or industrial painting.
- Knowledge of specialty coatings, wall finishes, and surface repair techniques.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and reach overhead.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Perform repetitive hand and arm movements throughout the workday.
- Work at heights and in confined spaces when required.
- Ability to distinguish colors accurately.
Work Environment
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in commercial, industrial, residential, or institutional facilities.
- Exposure to paint fumes, dust, chemicals, varying temperatures, and noise.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
- Occasional overtime or weekend work may be necessary based on project needs.
