Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Locksmith to join our maintenance team. The Locksmith is responsible for installing, repairing, modifying, and maintaining a variety of locking systems and security hardware. This role requires technical expertise in diagnosing lock malfunctions, repairing or replacing lock components, cutting and duplicating keys, and establishing effective key control systems to ensure the security of buildings, equipment, and facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, repair, replace, and maintain a variety of locks and locking mechanisms on doors, desks, cabinets, compartments, mobile equipment, safes, and vaults.
- Diagnose lock and hardware malfunctions to determine the appropriate repair or replacement.
- Disassemble locking mechanisms and replace worn or damaged parts, including tumblers, springs, cylinders, and other components.
- Repair lock components using hand and power tools, including filing, drilling, chiseling, and grinding.
- Open locked doors, safes, cabinets, and other secured devices using approved locksmith techniques.
- Cut, duplicate, and issue keys using key-cutting machines and related equipment.
- Rekey locks and change lock combinations by installing new or repaired lock components.
- Establish and maintain keying systems, including master key systems, for buildings and facilities.
- Install and adjust door hardware, including locksets, deadbolts, panic hardware, and door closers.
- Maintain accurate records of key inventories, lock changes, and completed work orders.
- Inspect locking systems to ensure proper operation and compliance with security standards.
- Maintain locksmith tools and equipment in safe working condition.
- Follow all applicable safety procedures, company policies, and industry best practices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience as a locksmith or in a related maintenance or security field.
- Knowledge of mechanical locking systems, key cutting, lock repair, and rekeying procedures.
- Ability to use locksmith tools, hand tools, power tools, and key-cutting equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical instructions, work orders, and equipment manuals.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Perform repetitive hand and finger movements requiring manual dexterity.
- Work at various heights and in confined spaces as needed.
- Ability to distinguish small mechanical components and perform detailed precision work.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in commercial, industrial, institutional, or residential facilities.
