What are the responsibilities and job description for the National Mental Health AmeriCorps Member position at Geminus & Regional Health Systems?
Position Purpose:
The Prevention National Mental Health Corps (NMHC) Member will take a community-based approach to addressing the local mental health crisis utilizing evidenced-based programs to train community members on how to prevent, detect and support people with mental illness. Prevention NMHC members will serve a full-time term (10 months/1700 hours) and will be trained as instructors in numerous evidence-based training curriculums to train members of the public. These interventions include Mental Health First Aid, Question. Persuade. Refer. (QPR), Wellness Initiative for Senior Education (WISE), Awareness. Direction. Interaction. (A.I.D.). Others may be identified during the service year. This position will provide prevention, outreach, and referral services for mental health promotion and suicide prevention throughout Northwest Indiana. The incumbent will assist with the coordination efforts of the Northwest Indiana Suicide Prevention Council in addition to the coordination of the projects, planning, scheduling, implementing, and evaluating suicide prevention and mental health promotion training opportunities, and report writing. This position works under close directive of the Manager of Prevention Services. The Prevention NMHC Member interfaces with community agencies, schools, parents, youth, and volunteers to support the activities of the program. The incumbent is expected to present a positive professional image of Geminus and the Prevention Services Department in effectively working with community officials and agencies to assure growth of prevention efforts and programming in the community.
Requirements:
Minimum of High School Diploma
No experience necessary. Must be computer literate-proficient in Microsoft Office-Word/Excel/Power Point and be able to accurately type 60wpm.
Pay: $3,924.20 - $4,725.91 per month
