Job Title: Welder (Trainee)

Summary
Welds metal parts with welding equipment as specified by layout, welding diagram, or work order, by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities Include The Following
Positions parts in jigs or fixtures on bench or floor, or clamps parts together along layout marks.
Selects torch, torch tip, and filler rod according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of metal. Connects regulator valves and hoses to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders and welding torch.
Turns regulator valves to activate flow gases, lights torch, and adjusts gas mixture and pressure, to obtain a desired flame.
Holds torch at proper angle to metal and guides along weld joint, applying filler rod to molten area to form weld. Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
Repairs broken or cracked metal objects, fills holes, and builds up metal parts.
Post heats work piece in stress draw furnace. Scarves or grooves weld prior to applying filler metal.
Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter. Cleans or degreases parts.
Communicates with individuals associated with the production of each order assigned, including those outside your immediate work area when necessary.
Performs and documents specific inspections criteria. Identifies and communicates any suspect and/or non-conforming product to the appropriate supervisor.
Delivers conforming products to the next appropriate operation.
Documents the time spent (scans time) for each order on a daily time ticket for tracking and cost analysis.
Other duties include housekeeping to insure a safe and productive working atmosphere and others specified by supervision.
