Job Description:
We are seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) with expertise in psychiatric nursing to join our healthcare team. As the ADON you will play a role in assisting the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all nursing services within a behavioral health hospital. The ADON ensures the delivery of safe, compassionate, evidence-based, and patient-centered care while maintaining compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards. The ADON provides leadership in nursing operations, quality improvement, infection prevention, staff development, and performance improvement initiatives. The ADON assumes DON duties in their absence.Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Assist the Director of Nursing with the daily operations of the nursing department.
- Supervise, mentor, and support Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Mental Health Technicians (MHTs), and other nursing personnel.
- Provide clinical leadership and serve as a resource for nursing staff.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels and appropriate patient assignments.
- Participate in recruitment, interviewing, orientation, retention, coaching, and performance evaluations.
- Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, accountability, and teamwork.
- Respond to patient, family, and staff concerns promptly and professionally.
- Participate in administrative on-call rotation as assigned.
- Ensure nursing care is delivered in accordance with professional standards and evidence-based practices.
- Coordinate and participate in the hospital's Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement program
- Collect, analyze, and report quality metrics, clinical indicator, and nursing sensitive outcomes
- Develop, implement, and monitor the Infection Prevention and Control Program.
- Monitor patient assessments, treatment plans, medication administration, documentation, and discharge planning.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, physicians, therapists, social workers, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Ensure appropriate management of behavioral health emergencies, including de-escalation, restraint, and seclusion practices in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Promote patient-centered care for adult and geriatric populations.
Qualifications
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
- Bachelor's or Associate degree in Nursing
- Certification in psychiatric nursing (preferred)
- Minimum of three to five years of progressive nursing leadership experience.
- Behavioral health or psychiatric nursing experience preferred.
- Experience in quality improvement and infection prevention preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
