What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Manager position at Gateway Group Personnel?
Responsible for maximizing profitability across the organization. Interfaces extensively with internal departments including Finance, Sales, Marketing, Procurement, Warehouse Operations, and Senior Management, as well as external vendors and brokers. Success in this role requires strong analytical capability, effective cross-functional communication, and sharp organizational and time management skills.
Major Functional Responsibilities
- Manages sales margins (GP percentage, dollars per unit, and dollars by delivery) by company, salesperson, and customer. Develops profit model reporting and performs ongoing financial analysis.
- Analyzes daily orders for cost errors or pricing discrepancies and identifies drivers behind all negative margin activity. Reviews national account margin trends for accuracy. Monitors cost and pricing by category to ensure profit targets are met.
- Provides recommendations to Sales Management on margin improvement opportunities, including pricing deviation analysis.
- Evaluates bid items for contract maintenance and compliance to maximize margins. Ensures cost accuracy and proper date ranges prior to calculation and roll processes. Coordinates with corporate teams to research and resolve supplier payback requests.
- Proactively supports the customer bid process using profit modeling to identify full EBITDA impact of new business awards. Develops tracking models for customer purchasing behavior and margin trends to validate volume and margin projections for new business and customer incentive programs.
- Evaluates and interacts with Senior Management on customer rebate, discount, and incentive program approvals, providing full margin impact analysis.
- Coordinates with Procurement to maximize income on inventory cost adjustments, aged inventory relief, and related matters. Supports implementation of best practices for cost administration.
- Oversees Bid Department processes and personnel. Mentors and develops direct reports.
- Participates in monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close. Prepares and reviews accounting reconciliations and analysis. Assists with volume, sales, and margin analysis for forecasting and budgeting. Serves as backup to Accounting Supervisor as needed.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
CPA designation is a plus.
Experience
- 4–6 years of experience in pricing, margin management, or product costing.
- Prior management experience preferred.
