Job Summary
The Federal Work Study (FWS) Outreach, Retention, and Administrative Assistant supports Gateway Community College’s student success initiatives by assisting with outreach efforts, retention activities, and daily administrative tasks.
Additional Information
In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information prior to applying to a Federal Work-Study job.
- FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.
- FWS requires the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and confirmation of federal work-study eligibility as determined by the financial aid office.
- FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program.
- The FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work while supporting the students academic goals.

Essential Functions
This position plays an important role in connecting students to campus resources, improving communication, and supporting office operations to ensure an engaging and inclusive student experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a GateWay Community College student registered for 6 or more credit hours and received financial aid eligibility.
Desired Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Customer service mindset and ability to interact professionally with students and staff.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, or similar platforms).
Special Working Conditions
- Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
- May require numerous evenings or weekends
- May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
- May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
- MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas.
