Description
The Gaston County Tax Department aims to accurately and impartially appraise all property in accordance with applicable state laws and to collect all ad valorem taxes. We strive to be effective, efficient, and courteous to all customers and citizens of Gaston County.
An anticipated hourly salary range for this position is $41.97 to $48.78.
Examples of Duties
The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are identified as those that are essential for an employee to perform.
- Supervises and participates in the appraisal of residential, commercial, industrial, and land parcels in Gaston County.
- Conducts field training with appraisal staff
- Plans and evaluates the work of supervised personnel; work involves planning short- and long-range work activities and evaluating employees on their performance.
- Prepares various written and statistical reports of work activities; prepares narrative responses to appeal of property valuations or as justification for valuations.
- Assists with informal appeals
- Tax office representative to the Board of Equalization and Review with formal appeals.
- Discusses appraised value of residential, commercial, industrial, or land parcels with property owners to resolve questions or problems.
- Manages the exemptions, exclusions, and Present-Use Value program for the County.
- Manages the corrections of tax bills.
- Performs related work as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field with a minimum of seven (7) years of appraisal experience. OR
- IAAO Designation with a minimum of seven (7) years of appraisal experience OR
- Ten (10) years’ experience in the appraisal field required in place of a degree or IAAO Designation.
- A current certification by the State of North Carolina as an Appraiser is required.
