What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Assembly Technician position at GasTech Engineering LLC?
This role is responsible for running the day‑to‑day production in the GasTech Assembly Department. You will plan the work, guide the crew, and make sure equipment is built, welded, tested, and shipped right the first time.
You are responsible for making sure work is done safely, on schedule, within budget, and to code. This position leads by example on the floor and helps keep the Assembly Department performing at a high level.
What You’ll Be Responsible For Safety
- Follow and enforce all GasTech safety rules
- Take part in safety audits and inspections
- Help fix unsafe conditions and prevent injuries
Running the Work
- Plan daily and weekly work for the Assembly crew
- Assign jobs and manpower to keep work moving
- Plan space, tools, and equipment to avoid delays
- Track jobs as they move through the department
- Update the Manufacturing Manager on job status
- Step in for the Manufacturing Manager when needed
Quality
- Make sure work is done per drawings, specs, and code
- Ensure welders are following the correct procedures
- Help find the cause of quality problems and fix them
- Take part in corrective action meetings
- Work to reduce rework and scrap
Technical Oversight
- Make sure welders are qualified to GasTech weld procedures
- Ensure welding rods, wire, and gas are correct, available, and stored properly
- Know and enforce ASME and ANSI welding requirements
- Oversee cutting, gouging, and welding work
- Read and understand P&IDs, drawings, and shop travelers
- Review and understand NDE results when required
Training, Housekeeping, and Equipment
- Make sure required training is completed
- Hold the crew accountable for good housekeeping
- Identify equipment problems and make sure repairs get done
What It Takes to Do This Job
Experience
- At least 5 years of process equipment assembly experience
- At least 3 years in a code welding shop
- Strong background in fitting and welding piping and equipment
- Experience assembling and testing vessels, skids, and related equipment
- Experience reading P&IDs, drawings, and NDE reports
Education & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Vocational welding training is a plus
- ISO 9001 shop experience is a plus
