Position Summary

The Field Safety Specialist is a hands-on, jobsite-focused role responsible for supporting day-to-day safety execution across company projects, shops, and field operations. Specialty in Trench Safety. Trench Boxes, benching, sloping, and other shoring methods.

This position works closely with field leadership, crews, and the Corporate Safety & Risk Management team to ensure safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and consistent implementation of company safety programs.

This role is primarily field-based and emphasizes proactive hazard identification, training, coaching, and incident prevention through regular presence on jobsites and in company facilities.

Key Responsibilities – Field & Jobsite Safety

- Perform frequent onsite safety audits, inspections, and observations at active jobsites and company facilities.

- Identify, correct, and document unsafe conditions, behaviors, and practices in real time.

- Provide practical, field-focused recommendations to supervisors and crews for hazard mitigation.

- Review and follow up on daily safety meetings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and inspection checklists.

- Ensure jobsites and shops are properly stocked with required PPE, safety equipment, signage, and emergency supplies.

Training & Engagement

- Conduct regular, hands-on safety training including toolbox talks and job-specific training.

- Reinforce company safety policies through daily interaction with crews.

- Assist with onboarding safety orientation for new hires.

- Support administration of safety incentive and Good Catch programs.

Incident & Injury Management

- Respond to incidents, near misses, and injuries.

- Assist with post-incident investigations and documentation.

- Help implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

- Support light-duty, restricted duty, and return-to-work programs.

Compliance & Documentation

- Maintain safety records and logs related to OSHA, MSHA, and DOT.

- Document site visits, observations, coaching conversations, and inspections.

- Communicate safety trends and concerns to Corporate Safety & Risk Management.

Collaboration & Support

- Serve as a safety resource to field leadership and crews.

- Partner with Corporate Safety & Risk Management on program rollouts.

- Support audits, inspections, and loss-control visits.

Requirements

- Safety-sensitive position.

- Construction or heavy civil safety experience preferred.

- Working knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations.

- Strong communication and organizational skills.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office.

- Ability to travel regularly to jobsites.
