We are seeking an Aviation Technical Writer 2 onsite full- time in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for creating reader-friendly user guides and installation and maintenance manuals for our Aviation business.
Essential Functions
- Research and collect data to write pilots’ guides, quick reference guides, installation manuals, maintenance manuals, and/or service documents
- Create electronic documents using word processing and desktop publishing tools
- Communicate with the Design Engineers regarding product specifications/development
- Research airframe technical characteristics to accurately document functions and features of specific aviation products
- Provide software beta testing input for Design Engineers, Program Managers, and Human Factors team
- Facilitate the rework of mechanical drawings and screen captures
- Work in a team environment within the Technical Publications area to constantly improve the archival, storage and documentation process
- Edit copy for content organization, style, voice, audience and format consistency
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, or another related technical field AND a minimum of 2 years of technical writing experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- Must possess experience in the aviation industry and working with and/or using avionics
- Familiar with aviation phraseology and flight operations procedures
- Proficient in desktop publishing tools relevant to Garmin’s business needs
- Basic understanding S1000D documentation standards
- Must be detail-oriented, possess the ability to work proactively/effectively with minimal supervision, and is able to prioritize/multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
- Avionics and/or electronics/technical background
- Pilot Certificate or A&P Certificate
- Instrument Rating
- IA Certificate
- Experience and/or knowledge in electronics relevant to the essential functions of this job description
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Experience (InDesign, Photoshop or Illustrator) & AutoCAD
- Experience and/or education in computer graphics creation relevant to Garmin’s business needs
