What are the responsibilities and job description for the QA Engineer position at Galent?
Job Title : QA Engineer
Job location : Brea, CA
Job Type: Contract
About the Role
We're looking for a QA Engineer to ensure the quality and reliability of our cloud and IoT platform.
You'll design and execute test strategies spanning cloud services, device connectivity, and edge Linux environments, and build automated testing frameworks that keep pace with a fast-moving engineering team.
What You'll Do
● Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites using Python and JavaScript
● Test backend services and APIs deployed on AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, IoT Core, DynamoDB, S3, etc.)
● Build and execute test plans for IoT device connectivity — provisioning, telemetry ingestion, command/control, and firmware/OTA update flows
● Perform functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing across cloud and edge/device components
● Test and validate behavior on Linux-based edge/embedded environments
● Set up and maintain CI/CD test pipelines to catch regressions early
● Identify, document, and track bugs, working closely with engineering to drive them to resolution
● Perform load, performance, and reliability testing for backend and IoT data pipelines
● Contribute to test strategy, tooling decisions, and quality standards across the team
What We're Looking For Required:
● Strong professional experience in QA/test automation using Python, Java and JavaScript
● Experience testing systems built on AWS (Lambda, IoT Core, Aurora, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch)
● Experience testing IoT systems — device-to-cloud protocols (MQTT, CoAP, WebSockets), telemetry, and device fleet behavior
● Solid working knowledge of Linux — command line, networking, process/service management
● Experience with test automation frameworks (e.g., Behave, Selenium, Playwright, K6)
● Experience with REST and SOAP API testing tools (Postman, REST-assured, SOAP UI or similar)
● Familiarity with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI) and integrating automated tests into pipelines
● Strong debugging skills and ability to write clear, reproducible bug reports
Nice to Have:
● Experience with performance/load testing tools (JMeter, Locust)
● Experience testing embedded or edge Linux devices
● Familiarity with infrastructure as code (Terraform/CDK) for test environment provisioning
● Experience with containerized test environments (Docker, Kubernetes)
● Exposure to security testing practices for cloud/IoT systems
