Garage technician -Diesel Mechanic

Job Description

Garage technician will be responsible for bumper-to-bumper repairs and troubleshoot/diagnose repairs/electrical issues on vehicle.

Summary:

The main function of a mechanical technician is to modify, test and repair machinery and equipment under direction of engineering staff or physical scientists. A mechanical technician helps engineers design, test, and manufacture industrial machinery, consumer products and other equipment.

Job Responsibilities:

• Review and approve detail drawing or sketch for drafting room completion or to request parts fabrication by machine, sheet or wood shops.
• Approve project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, and objectives, and test nature of technical problems such as redesign.
• Approve project instructions and specifications to identify, modify and plan requirements fabrication, assembly and testing.
• Communicate changes in design, method of manufacture and assembly, and drafting techniques and procedures to staff and approve corrections.
• Review and approve tool drawing designs by measuring drawing dimensions and comparing with original specifications for form and function using engineering skills.
• Supervise tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate proposals for improving equipment performance.
• Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and modify or adjust equipment to meet specifications.
• Devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components for products such as industrial machinery or equipment, and measuring instruments.

• Strong ability to make sketches, engineering drawings and common computations.

• Strong knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
• Previous experience with computer applications and design software related to engineering field.

Education/Experience:

• Associate's degree in engineering technology or related field required.
• 8-10 years experience required.

• Technologies/depth of technologies required
• Any preferred schools/companies      

Education requirement – 2 Year Technical Degree (example - UNOH, Baker College)

Years of experience – At least 8 years, but the manager is very flexible on this

The manager is open to someone coming right out of college if they have a strong diesel background. Dealership experience on diesels, what they work on at home (project vehicles or something like their family friends) manager will be asking about this in the SSV

Nice to have – chauffer’s license due to trucks getting heavier

Fabrication skills/welding ***BIG BONUS*** they do a lot of this

ASE certification preferred – not a must have

Able to work with others as a team, admits mistakes and a strong work ethic.

Technician should have their own basic hand tools and tool box - this will be discussed in the SSV what type of tools they will need
