Job Description:
AT&T is seeking a highly skilled and hands-on IPv6 Engineer for a fully onsite role in Herndon, VA. This is a specialized position focused specifically on IPv6 architecture, deployment, migration, troubleshooting, and optimization across enterprise and carrier-grade environments.
We are not looking for general Network Engineers who have minimal exposure to IPv6. The ideal candidate must have dedicated, real-world IPv6 implementation experience and should be able to demonstrate deep technical expertise in IPv6 networking concepts, transition mechanisms, routing, and large-scale deployments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and support enterprise and carrier-grade IPv6 network solutions
- Lead IPv4 to IPv6 migration initiatives and transition strategies
- Configure and troubleshoot IPv6 routing protocols including BGP, OSPFv3, and EIGRP
- Perform IPv6 addressing planning, subnetting, and architecture design
- Support dual-stack, tunneling, and translation technologies such as NAT64, DHCPv6, SLAAC, and DNS64
- Troubleshoot complex IPv6 connectivity and performance issues
- Work closely with security, infrastructure, and operations teams to ensure seamless IPv6 integration
- Create technical documentation, network diagrams, and deployment procedures
- Participate in testing, validation, and optimization of IPv6 environments
Required Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience working specifically as an IPv6 Engineer
- Deep understanding of IPv6 protocols, addressing, routing, and transition technologies
- Experience with IPv6 deployment in enterprise or telecom environments
- Expertise in routing/switching technologies and network troubleshooting
- Strong experience with Cisco environments
- Experience with BGP, OSPFv3, MPLS, DHCPv6, NAT64, DNS64, and dual-stack environments
- Strong knowledge of network security principles related to IPv6
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- CCNP/CCIE or equivalent networking certifications
- Experience supporting government or secure network environments
- Prior experience working in large-scale telecom environments
Important Note:
