The ideal candidate will possess deep hands-on knowledge of IPv6 routing, multicast protocols, and Cisco platforms to facilitate seamless network upgrades and ensure secure, scalable IP infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing IPv4 network infrastructure to evaluate readiness for IPv6 integration, including hardware, software, and topology audits.
- Develop detailed roadmaps and strategies for IPv6 transition, addressing gaps and ensuring compatibility across network devices and systems.
- Design scalable IPv6 addressing schemes and dual-stack solutions to enable backward compatibility while providing full IPv6 functionality.
- Create high-level and low-level network design documents, including topology diagrams, routing policies, and IP allocation plans.
- Develop and execute testing plans for IPv6 deployment, covering dual-stack, tunneling protocols, translation mechanisms (NAT64/DNS64), and multicast routing.
- Perform lab-based proof-of-concept testing to validate IPv6 configurations, multicast functionality, and routing protocol behavior before production rollout.
- Troubleshoot complex IPv6 and dual-stack network issues, providing root cause analysis and resolution strategies.
- Collaborate with security, systems, and application teams to ensure end-to-end IPv6 compatibility and security compliance.
- Develop and document migration procedures, change management plans, and rollback protocols for IPv6 deployment projects.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on IPv6 and multicast technologies, mentoring junior engineers and supporting knowledge transfer.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive network engineering experience within enterprise or service provider environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in IPv6 addressing, routing, and migration strategies.
- Proven ability to design and operate IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack networks.
- Strong knowledge of multicast routing protocols such as PIM-SM, IGMP, and MLD in IPv4 and IPv6 contexts.
- Cisco CCNP (Enterprise or Service Provider) certification or equivalent industry experience.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco routing and switching platforms, including IOS/IOS-XE.
- Ability to produce clear, professional network design and test documentation.
- Experience with routing protocols such as OSPFv2/v3 and BGP (including IPv6 address families).
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and experience with network monitoring tools like NetFlow and SNMP in IPv6 environments.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with prior experience participating in large-scale IPv6 migration projects.
- Knowledge of network security policies and compliance frameworks related to IPv6 deployment.
