Position Summary
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing dock and yard operations within a high-volume 3PL warehouse environment. This role ensures the efficient, safe, and timely flow of inbound and outbound freight while meeting client service level agreements (SLAs). The supervisor will manage dock and yard personnel across a split shift and serve as a key point of contact between warehouse operations, transportation teams, and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily dock and yard operations in a multi-client 3PL environment
- Manage inbound and outbound freight flow to meet customer SLAs and operational KPIs
- Oversee yard activities including trailer tracking, dock assignments, yard moves, and yard organization
- Coordinate closely with transportation, dispatch, and warehouse leadership to ensure on-time shipping and receiving
- Lead, train, and coach dock associates, yard jockeys/hostlers, and temporary labor as needed
- Enforce company policies, customer requirements, and OSHA safety standards
- Monitor labor productivity, dwell time, turn time, and equipment utilization
- Resolve operational issues, service failures, and dock/yard constraints in real time
- Ensure accurate documentation, system updates (WMS/YMS), and reporting for multiple clients
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost control, service, and efficiency
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure dock and yard environment
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of supervisory experience in a 3PL, logistics, or distribution environment
- Strong working knowledge of dock operations, yard management, and trailer control
- Experience managing operations across split shifts and variable workloads
- Understanding of 3PL customer requirements, SLAs, and performance metrics
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and warehouse safety practices
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with WMS and/or YMS platforms
- Ability to work outdoors, walk the yard/dock, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supervising yard jockeys/hostlers in a 3PL setting
- Experience supporting multiple customers or accounts
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
