Job Overview
Are you looking to grow in your career? We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative CAD Drafter to join our small manufacturing team. This role is critical in supporting production, sales, and compliance by creating accurate technical drawings, maintaining documentation, and ensuring manufacturability of designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed mechanical design, analysis, and optimization of custom industrial equipment including pumps, piping systems, pressure vessels, tanks, and structural supports.
- Serve as a technical resource during the quoting and pre-sales phase by vetting project feasibility, risks, and assumptions prior to sales commitments.
- Develop, standardize, and maintain engineering calculations, design procedures, and component specifications to support repeatable, reliable project delivery.
- Collaborate closely with production, fabrication, and assembly teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and aligned with shop capabilities.
- Generate, review, and approve comprehensive engineering documentation packages including P&IDs, technical specifications, calculations, and operating manuals.
- Support accurate project costing by defining equipment requirements, materials, tolerances, and performance criteria.
- Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reduce cost, simplify fabrication, or enhance serviceability and long-term reliability.
- Provide technical guidance to CAD drafters, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure design intent is clearly communicated.
- Participate in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement efforts for fielded systems.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry codes, safety standards, and internal engineering best practices.
- Engage in continuous learning to stay current with industry standards, mechanical design methodologies, and evolving water treatment technologies.
Skills and Abilities
- Mechanical Engineering Expertise – Strong foundation in mechanical system design, analysis, and equipment selection for industrial applications.
- Industrial Systems Knowledge – Experience with pumps, piping, fluid systems, vessels, and structural supports, ideally within water or process industries.
- Design for Manufacturing – Ability to create designs that balance performance, cost, and fabrication efficiency.
- Technical Judgment – Comfortable assessing feasibility, risk, and assumptions early in the sales and quoting process.
- Documentation & Standards – Skilled in developing and reviewing calculations, specifications, manuals, and engineering procedures.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration – Strong communicator who works effectively with sales, production, CAD, and leadership teams.
- Problem-Solving Mindset – Proactive in identifying design improvements and resolving technical challenges.
