What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Care Worker position at FSL Programs?
Position Summary
Collaboratively with the Team Leaders, Nurses, and Member Advocate, works to help ensure members can successfully complete routine activities of daily living while promoting dignity and independence in the process. The DCW is a critical part of the Adult Day Health Services team, working closely with our members providing person center services that are focused on bringing happiness to the lives of those we are privileged to serve.
This position does not have direct reports.

Requirements
Education & Experience, Knowledge/Understanding
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma
- No experience necessary
- Article 9 Certification needs to be completed prior to working independently with members
- Valid CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of position entry
- Valid Food Handlers Card or ability to obtain within 30 days of position entry
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Clear fingerprint background screening through the Department of Public Safety and comprehensive background clearance prior to new hire orientation
Skills
- Strong verbal, written, reading, and listening communication skills to include communicating clearly, effectively, tactfully, and patiently to a diverse population.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demeanor with the ability to build rapport and garner trust with others.
- Proficient in the use of a PC; in a Windows environment; in the use of the Internet; and in the use of MS Office Applications such as Outlook, Team, and Word.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
- Works in a climate-controlled environment, infrequently outdoors
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Requires bending, stooping, lifting and standing for long periods of time
- Able to work under conditions of frequent interruptions
- Able to work with challenging behaviors expressed by members, i.e. verbal and physical aggressions, wandering, etc.
- May be exposure to potentially infectious fluids such as blood or body fluids
- Exposure to latex, plastic, and/or materials which are used for personal protective equipment
Preferences
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- One year paid or volunteer experience working with older adults, adults with living with dementia or a cognitive disability, or adults living with a mental health diagnosis
- Experience assisting with planned group activities or recreation
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
