The Role
To provide accurate and current labeling information to both the regulatory agencies and to our customers for all products produced by and/or repackaged by FreshDirect. To provide technical expertise to ensure compliance in all aspects of food product development. The Manager, Nutrition, Regulatory & Scientific Affairs will serve as an expert resource for labeling and food based regulatory affairs for FreshDirect personnel, as well as providing strategic guidance for Fresh Direct’s Prepared Foods category.

The Role
To provide accurate and current labeling information to both the regulatory agencies and to our customers for all products produced by and/or repackaged by FreshDirect. To provide technical expertise to ensure compliance in all aspects of food product development. The Manager, Nutrition, Regulatory & Scientific Affairs will serve as an expert resource for labeling and food based regulatory affairs for FreshDirect personnel, as well as providing strategic guidance for Fresh Direct’s Prepared Foods category.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure food regulatory compliance of products, labels, advertising and promotions for FreshDirect.
- Develop and maintain nutrition and regulatory technical information for raw materials, semi-finished goods and finished goods in specification databases for FreshDirect customers both on package and on the FreshDirect web site.
- Partner with R&D to provide nutrition and regulatory guidance and ensure compliance during the product development process and throughout the duration of the product life cycle.
- Defines and maintains nutritional benchmarks for the prepared foods portfolio, translating FDA guidelines and current dietary trends (e.g., low-carb, keto, low-sugar) into actionable thresholds for product development.
- Provide nutrition and regulatory guidance on project teams across all departments to enable accurate decision-making and ensure compliance.
- Oversee maintenance and updating of ingredient and nutrition information data maintained in ERPSy for all trade good products merchandised on the FreshDirect website.
- Review/approve labels and packaging artwork for all private brand products for regulatory compliance and technical accuracy.
- Manage elevated consumer inquiries and supports nutrition, regulatory and labeling related corporate requests.
- Maintain knowledge of USDA and FDA guidelines and policies; and stay abreast of nutrition and regulatory developments and identify opportunities and implications to the business.
- Maintain historical and chronological files of all final label approvals and specifications.
- Manage an active auditing program to maintain the integrity and compliance of all labeling information on product labels and the FreshDirect website.
- Managing multiple concurrent projects on tight deadlines.
- Keeping current on labeling regulations including, but not limited to, nutritional labeling, allergens, ingredients, health claims and country of origin labeling (“COOL”) requirements.
- Handling labeling changes made necessary by product changes in a timely manner.
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in Regulatory, Nutrition, R&D or Quality with a food company.
- One to three (1-3) years’ experience with nutrition software (Genesis preferred) is required.
- Proficiency with systems, applications & products in data processing (SAP or comparable software), MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Extensive knowledge of USDA/FDA regulations and policies across all food categories pertaining to regulatory and label compliance.
- Ability to maintain effective and cordial working relationships while, at the same time, come to resolution/agreement between various departments on FreshDirect objectives and goals.
- Personable with excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of employees from multiple departments. Must be able to secure agreement from various departments.
- Must be flexible, creative, and extremely attentive to detail. Must excel in completing investigations and drawing conclusions from data.
