Job Overview
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for refurbishing, overhauling, troubleshooting, repairing, and installation of all production, packaging and facility equipment in a food safe processing/packaging environment. The Maintenance Mechanic will also assist with and/or perform upgrades, remove and/or relocate production and packaging equipment.
Design, fabricate and install component parts and accessories. Perform preventative maintenance on all production and packaging machinery equipment. This includes lubricating moving parts, replacing wear parts at predetermined intervals, completing visual/audio inspections and the documentation of inspections and work performed.
Responsibilities
· Independently performs assigned preventative maintenance on production, packaging and facility equipment as directed.
· Performs mechanical and electrical troubleshooting of plant equipment as directed.
· Performs building maintenance and repairs as directed.
· Completes job assignments as instructed within compliance to standards.
· Monitors department equipment for mechanical problems and/or equipment malfunctions.
· Completes accurate, legible departmental maintenance records and logs.
· Responds to production, packaging and facility equipment trouble calls.
· Responds to production needs as they occur on the production floor.
· Complies with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), federal, state and local regulations.
· Complies with GMP, BRC and company guidelines to produce a safe and quality product.
· Works closely and communicates effectively with department heads and supervisors to accomplish repair and maintenance and operation efficiency, including present and potential work problems with suggestions for new or improved designs or procedures.
· Assists in maintaining inventories of parts and supplies by appropriately signing out parts from storeroom and reporting low supply levels to supervisor.
· Maintains general cleanliness of all areas of facility where maintenance activities are being performed.
· Works shifts and overtime as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities/Special Qualifications
High school graduate, or GED equivalent; Two to five years experience in food processing, maintenance and fabrication, or any equivalent; Knowledge of process in mig, tig, and stick welding; stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel; plasma cutting; shearing and forming of such materials.
· The ability to pass drug screen test;
· Possession of a valid location specific State Driver’s license;
· First Aid and CPR certified;
· Knowledge of industrial maintenance operations and procedures;
· Thorough knowledge of maintenance safety standards;
· Proficient in using hand, power, shop and diagnostic tools;
· Ability to diagnose mechanical defects; Possess proficient mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills and emergency repair skills; ability to identify and repair problematic issues concerning all equipment and machinery, including finding innovative solutions to recurrent problems;
· Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
· Integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks;
· Skill in reading and writing English sufficient to read and write reports or logs;
· Ability to keep detailed records as required;
· Ability to effectively communicate with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language;
· Ability to interact with other personnel (coworkers, supervisors, etc.) in a respectful, considerate manner to satisfactorily perform essential duties required of this position and not to inhibit others from performing their essential duties;
