What are the responsibilities and job description for the Litigation Associate position at Freedman Normand Friedland LLP?
About the Firm
Freedman Normand Friedland LLP (FNF) is a litigation firm known for combining creative legal strategies, deep technical expertise, and aggressive advocacy to deliver results in complex, high-value disputes and class actions. Our attorneys regularly go up against the largest firms in the country on behalf of our clients—and win. We offer the sophistication and rigor of an elite practice with the agility, early responsibility, and partnership accessibility that only a firm of our size can provide.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an exceptional junior associate to join our litigation practice. From your first day, you will be embedded in active, high-stakes matters, taking and defending depositions, drafting dispositive motions, managing discovery strategy, and contributing to trial and appellate work. Associates at FNF are not relegated to narrow document review tracks. We expect our associates to develop rapidly into skilled, well-rounded litigators, and we staff our matters to enable that.
Responsibilities
- Draft and argue motions, including motions to dismiss, for summary judgment, and in limine
- Take and defend depositions of fact and expert witnesses
- Develop and execute a discovery strategy, including drafting and responding to written discovery
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda on complex procedural and substantive issues
- Prepare witnesses for deposition and trial testimony
- Assist in all phases of trial preparation and, when the opportunity arises, participate in trial proceedings
- Manage day-to-day case workflow, coordinate with co-counsel and opposing counsel, and interface directly with clients
- Contribute to appellate briefing and oral argument preparation
Qualifications
- JD from a top-14 law school, or top 5% of your class, with a highly distinguished academic record (top of class, law review, moot court, or comparable distinction strongly preferred)
- Admitted or eligible for admission to the New York, Florida, or Massachusetts bar; must be in good standing in all jurisdictions of admission
- Federal clerkship experience at the district or appellate level strongly preferred
- Exceptional legal writing and analytical ability; a writing sample that demonstrates precision, originality, and command of complex subject matter will be required
- Sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to work independently on matters of significant consequence
- A demonstrated commitment to excellence and a work ethic commensurate with the demands of a top-tier practice
What We Offer
- Market-rate compensation competitive with AmLaw firms, plus a discretionary performance-based bonus
- Meaningful responsibility and client exposure from day one, not years of waiting for substantive work
- Direct mentorship from senior partners who are recognized leaders in their fields
- A collegial, intellectually rigorous environment where excellent work is noticed and rewarded
- A clear trajectory toward partnership for associates who demonstrate exceptional ability and dedication
To Apply
Interested candidates should submit a resume, law school transcript, a brief writing sample, and a short cover letter. Candidates completing federal clerkships are encouraged to apply in advance of their clerkship end date.
