Seasonal Part-Time Highway Engineering Technician

Freeborn County is accepting applications for a part time engineering technical in the Highway Department.  The position will perform duties at the direction of the County Engineer related to road design and computer aided drafting, web design, and contract administration.  Applicant must have a valid Minnesota Driver’s license, must be 18 years of age, must have extensive working knowledge of road design requirements and oversize/overweight permit requirements in Minnesota, must have good communication skills, and able to work varying hours depending on the needs of the department.  High school graduate with technical training or equivalent experience preferred.

Wage: $25.00 - $30.00

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

Ability to perform any combination of the following duties:

1. Computer aided drafting
2. Web Design
3. Technical specification writing
4. Interpret design standards
5. Contract administration
6. Communicate with the public concerning projects and to resolve complaints

Ability to safely operate the following equipment:

1. Pickup trucks
2. Computers
3. Survey equipment
4. Copier/Scanner
5. County phone system

   1. Assist other county staff as assigned

   REQUIREMENTS

   WORKING CONDITIONS: 90% Office; 10% Construction site

   Highway Department employees are required to work outdoors in all weather conditions during the months of May through October.  Weather conditions encountered may include heat, cold, rain, snow, sleet, wind, etc.  Appropriate safety equipment must be worn at all times.

   HOURS OF WORK:

   Variable, on-call, at the discretion of the Engineer.

   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

   1. Ability to perform all essential position functions
   2. Must possess a valid Minnesota Driver’s License
   3. Must be 18 years of age by the first date of employment
   4. Must be able to communicate effectively with the public and co-workers
   5. Must be able to lift 70 pounds and work in a variety of weather conditions
   6. Must be neatly groomed
   7. Must be able to physically perform the job duties assigned
   8.
