Position Summary
The Secondary Math Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, standards-based mathematics instruction that promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues, families, and school staff to ensure student success.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Mathematics
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students
- Integrate technology and real-world applications to enhance mathematical understanding
- Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction accordingly
Student Learning & Support
- Foster a classroom environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and academic excellence
- Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical reasoning skills
- Differentiate instruction to support students with diverse learning needs
- Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to students and families
Classroom Management
- Establish and maintain effective classroom procedures and expectations
- Promote positive student behavior through consistent classroom management practices
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with administrators, counselors, teachers, and support staff to promote student success
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning communities, and required professional development
- Maintain accurate student records, grades, and attendance in accordance with district policies
School & Community Engagement
- Support school initiatives and participate in school-wide activities as appropriate
- Serve on committees or assist with extracurricular activities when assigned
- Uphold district policies and maintain professional and ethical standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field
- Valid North Carolina teaching license in Mathematics (or eligibility to obtain licensure)
- Knowledge of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Mathematics
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and student achievement
Working Conditions
- Requires standing, walking, and moving throughout the instructional day
