Senior Developer, BI Reporting - Aderant / Power BI / Financial Systems
Location: Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, or Washington, DC (hybrid - 2-3 days on site)
Compensation: Base salary bandings below for each location, plus bonus and benefits;
Boston: $136,800 – $166,700
Chicago: $129,700 – $157,900
Los Angeles: $135,900 - $165,500

We’re partnered with a highly respected economic consulting firm seeking an experienced Senior Developer, BI Reporting, to join its Software Engineering team.
This role sits at the intersection of financial systems, business intelligence, and enterprise reporting, with a strong focus on Aderant, Power BI, SQL Server, and data warehouse technologies to support strategic decision-making, operational efficiency, and financial transparency.
The Role
This is a senior-level individual contributor role for a developer who wants to lead complex reporting and financial systems initiatives in a professional services environment. You will be hands-on across Power BI development, SQL and T-SQL programming, Aderant customization, and reporting infrastructure, helping deliver scalable reporting solutions for finance, operations, and leadership stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain advanced reporting solutions using Power BI, SQL Server, SSRS, Excel, VBA, and related BI technologies.
- Develop and support Aderant applications including Expert Time, Expert GL, Expert Billing, and Prebill Manager.
- Integrate data from Aderant modules and other enterprise systems into Power BI and the wider reporting environment using best practices.
- Build and optimize data models, DAX queries, automated data feeds, and reporting infrastructure to ensure performance, usability, and continuity.
- Support financial systems across time and accounting, payroll, fixed assets, budgeting, and financial reporting, including participation in month-end close, balancing, and reporting processes.
- Partner with Finance and IT teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions, troubleshoot data issues, improve data integrity, and support end users across the organization.
Candidate Profile
- 8 years of experience in IT, business systems, or financial systems reporting.
- 8 years of experience with SQL and T-SQL programming in reporting-heavy environments.
- 5 years of experience working with Aderant and related financial or practice management applications.
- 3 years of experience in Power BI development and administration, including dashboard and executive reporting creation.
- 5 years of experience with data warehouse technologies and enterprise reporting data structures.
- Strong understanding of financial and operational data within a professional services, legal, or similarly complex business environment.
- Advanced Excel skills, including macros, troubleshooting, and building reporting outputs for senior stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across both technical and non-technical teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience; relevant certification is a plus.
