What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Project Manager position at Framework - Construction Recruiting?
Assistant Project Manager
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Salary: $85,000 - $115,000
This opportunity is with one of New York City's most respected heavy mechanical contractors. The company specializes in large-scale wastewater and civil infrastructure - major pumping stations, water pollution control facilities, and municipal piping systems across the five boroughs - with additional work in commercial plumbing, heating, and fire protection. They work directly for NYC agencies like the DEP, large general contractors, and state and federal clients on complex, high-stakes projects.
As the company scales toward an aggressive 10-year revenue goal, they need a layer of organized, detail-oriented support between the field and senior project management. The APM role is designed to free up PMs to focus on execution and margin by owning the documentation, scheduling, and administrative side of active projects. It is a high-visibility role with a clear path to Project Manager within 2-4 years.
What You'll Do
- Manage RFIs, submittals, and change orders across an active project portfolio
- Track project schedules and milestones, flagging delays proactively
- Support billing processes including pencil copies, requisitions, and backup documentation
- Coordinate subcontractor and vendor documentation and compliance requirements
- Maintain accurate project data in company systems
- Assist with cost tracking and budget updates
- Serve as a key communication link between field crews and the office
What You Bring
- 1-4 years of construction experience in field, admin, or project engineering
- Strong organizational skills and a track record of following through on commitments
- Basic understanding of RFIs, submittals, and change order processes
- Proficiency in Excel and willingness to learn company systems
- Clear communicator with both field and office teams
- Proactive and process-driven; you chase information rather than waiting for it
What You'll Gain
- Competitive salary of $85,000 - $115,000
- 401(k) with profit sharing
- Company investment in professional development and personal goals
- A clear advancement path to Project Manager within 2-4 years
- A culture built on accountability, teamwork, and pride in the work
At Framework, we keep it simple: we connect great people with great builders. We're not just filling seats - we're helping construction professionals find real opportunities with companies that value what they bring to the table. Our candidates trust us because we're honest, we follow through, and we never push roles that aren't the right fit. We take the time to understand where you're coming from and where you want to go.
The builders we represent are more than just clients to us. Many of them are friends and long-time partners. If we wouldn't feel confident working for them ourselves, we wouldn't introduce them to the people who trust us with their careers.
On the flip side, our clients count on us to bring high-quality people who are the real deal - both in skill and character. They'll tell you we just get it. We're proud to be the kind of recruiters who do what's right, not what's easy, and we make sure it's a win for everyone involved.
