What are the responsibilities and job description for the Freelance Women’s Accessories & Home Designer (PT) position at Fourth Floor?
Our client is looking for a Freelance Women’s Accessories & Home Designer to join their team in NYC on a part time basis.
This role is 20-30 hours/week.
Responsibilities
- Co-create with the Creative Director to develop seasonal concepts through moodboards, research, and trend analysis
- Co-create with the Creative Director to define color palettes and material direction aligned with the collection vision
- Design across accessories and home categories (bags, belts, hats, scarves, small goods, blankets, pillows, slippers, home accessories)
- Produce clear, elevated sketches (hand or digital) to communicate design intent Create and update detailed tech packs (TPs) including measurements, construction details, BOMs, and trims
- Ensure all TPs are production-ready and aligned with factory requirements
- Review prototypes (P1/P2/SMS), measure samples, and provide clear, actionable comments
- Track product development from concept through to approval
- Communicate directly with factories on development, corrections, and approvals
- Source and develop materials, trims, and hardware in collaboration with vendors
- Ensure execution meets quality, cost, and timeline expectations
- Proactively troubleshoot development or production challenges
Qualifications
- 4 years experience in women’s accessories design (contemporary or luxury preferred)
- Strong experience working with genuine leather (construction, sourcing, development)
- Experience with faux fur and alternative materials is a strong plus
- Experience across soft goods and home categories (blankets, pillows, slippers, etc.) is a plus
- Strong technical knowledge of construction, materials, and product development
- Proven ability to create detailed, accurate tech packs
- Experience working directly with overseas factories (China experience a plus)
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator (Photoshop/InDesign a plus)
- Strong eye for proportion, materiality, and elevated design
