Four Rivers Charter Public School is seeking a dedicated Director of Finance and Operations. Affiliated with EL Education, Four Rivers is a college-preparatory charter public school with a clear mission of educating young people for lives of learning and service.
Located in Greenfield, MA, Four Rivers enrolls approximately 220 students in grades 7–12 and has been in operation for over 20 years. Position Overview
The Director of Finance and Operations reports directly to the Head of School and Principal and provides comprehensive leadership and management of the school’s financial, human resources, and facilities operations.
- 12-month, fully benefited administrative position
- Start date: July 1, 2026
- Salary range: $90,000 – $118,000 (dependent on skills and experience)
- Provide financial and human resources advice and guidance to the Head of School and Principal, Board of Trustees, and Board committees
- Institute and facilitate strategic, financial, human resources, and facilities planning
- Research, model, analyze, prepare, and submit the annual operating budget
- Prepare detailed analyses and reports related to finance, human resources, facilities, grants, and administrative matters
- Attend and present at administrative, Board, and committee meetings as required
- Provide coaching and support to staff related to budgeting, purchasing, human resources, and facilities
- Offer insight, experience, and problem-solving guidance to leadership staff and Board members
- Provide these services, as needed, to the Four Rivers Educational Foundation, Family Council, and other school-related groups
- Manage accounting and financial systems and maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with DESE, charter regulations, and GAAP
- Conduct financial analysis and prepare detailed financial statements and reports
- Provide financial and accounting leadership and direction
- Facilitate annual entitlement grant planning and coordinate government and non-government grant applications
- Monitor grant reporting requirements, prepare amendments and final reports, and manage monthly drawdowns
- Ensure compliance with financial legislation, DESE and charter policies, and banking and investment regulations
- Develop, document, and oversee purchasing practices, forms, and systems
- Prepare for and manage the annual audit process, including responding to findings and implementing corrective actions
- Establish and maintain cash controls, petty cash procedures, and payment systems
- Monitor spending against approved budgets and recommend corrective actions
- Manage cash flow, investments, and reserves and reconcile bank and investment accounts
- Provide these services to the Four Rivers Educational Foundation and other school groups, as needed
- Develop and maintain salary and benefits benchmarking systems for comparable positions
- Research and recommend changes to salaries and benefits aligned with benchmarking data and strategic priorities
- Manage payroll systems to ensure accurate, timely payment and proper grant cost allocation
- Assist with job description updates and role transitions
- Maintain accurate time-off and benefits usage records
- Provide guidance to the Head of School and Principal and Board committees on HR planning and management
- Coordinate registration and reporting with the Massachusetts Teachers Retirement System
- Oversee compliance with CORI, SORI, fingerprinting, driving records, and employee documentation
- Ensure personnel files comply with DESE and state and federal requirements
- Assist in the development, maintenance, and updating of Personnel Policies
- Serve as Chief Procurement Officer and oversee bidding, contracts, and compliance
- Arrange and manage all insurance products and serve as liaison with vendors
- Oversee pest control contracts and required DESE documentation
- Maintain asbestos abatement plans, water quality testing records, and compliance documentation
- Oversee lunch program procedures and coordinate with Greenfield Public Schools Food Services
- Support Sustainability Fund appeals, donor database maintenance, and related materials
- Maintain accurate Board of Trustees minutes and bylaws
- Provide these services to the Four Rivers Educational Foundation as needed
