Key Coaching Principles

The Instructional Coach operates from the following foundational beliefs aligned to research-based instructional coaching:

Equality and Partnership– The coach and teacher work as equal partners, with the teacher's voice and choices driving the coaching agenda.

Non-Evaluative Stance– The Instructional Coach maintains a role separate from teacher evaluation to preserve trust and create psychological safety.

Teacher Agency– Teachers select their own coaching focus areas based on their professional goals, student data, and school priorities.

Reflective Practice– Coaching emphasizes reflective conversations, active listening, and collaborative problem-solving rather than directive advice.

Focus on Depth– Coaching concentrates on a limited number of high-impact instructional strategies to ensure meaningful implementation and measurable student impact.

Data-Informed Decisions– Coaching cycles use student learning data, classroom observations, and teacher feedback to guide instructional improvement.

Continuous Learning- Both the coach and teachers engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice to support continuous improvement.
