POSITION OVERVIEW
We've partnered with a high-growth organization to recruit a hands-on Assistant Controller to take ownership of the accounting function across multiple entities. This highly visible role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment and can operate as a true business partner to key stakeholders, bringing structure, strengthening financial operations, and helping scale the accounting function.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting Operations & Close
- Lead and coordinate the monthly and year-end close cycles across multiple entities
- Maintain integrity of the general ledger and proactively resolve variances or discrepancies
- Oversee preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy
- Track and maintain the fixed asset ledger, including additions, disposals, and transfers
- Calculate and record monthly depreciation in accordance with company policies
Cash Management & Financial Reporting
- Perform and review bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
- Monitor cash activity, track balances, and ensure adequate cash to support operations
- Support banking relationships through reporting and compliance with financing agreements
- Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for internal stakeholders
- Deliver variance analysis and ad hoc reporting to support business decisions
- Ensure consistency and accuracy across financial reporting for multiple entities
Technical Accounting & Compliance
- Support accounting for inventory and related cost activity across multiple channels
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition aligned with accounting standards and internal policies
- Evaluate transaction timing and classification to ensure proper financial reporting
- Coordinate with external auditors and manage audit deliverables and timelines
- Prepare supporting documentation and ensure audit-ready processes year-round
- Maintain compliance with sales tax and other regulatory requirements
Leadership & Process Improvement
- Lead and develop a team of 2–4, supporting day-to-day accounting operations
- Drive team performance and output quality through coaching and oversight
- Establish clear workflows, accountability, and review processes
- Identify inefficiencies and implement process enhancements across accounting workflows
- Strengthen internal controls and documentation in support of company growth
- Drive initiatives that improve accuracy, timeliness, and scalability of financial operations
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- 9-12 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience managing an accounting team
- Strong technical accounting foundation with practical application of U.S. GAAP, including expertise in month-end close, financial reporting, and general ledger accounting
- Working knowledge of revenue recognition, sales tax, and inventory accounting
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, with the ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced setting
- Ability to show strong initiative, work autonomously, and drive process improvements
- Experience with ERP systems (ie SAP, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, etc)
