ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Assumes responsibility for the effective and accurate completion of accounting recording and reporting functions.
- Oversees preparation of daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual periodic financial records and reporting by accounting staff.
- Ensures that external document submissions and filings (including tax items) are accurate and timely.
- Reviews and approves journal entries, tasks, account reconciliations, check and ACH AP payments.
- Ensures that records and reports are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and government regulations.
- Oversees the Credit Union’s fixed asset portfolio to include depreciation schedules and cataloging of furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
- Researches and resolves accounting errors and discrepancies.
- Prepares regular reports and statements for management.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates procedures to maximize efficiency of department functions.
- Assists VP, Accounting in developing long and short-run operational/budgeting goals and objectives for the accounting department.
- Acts as a backup to department staff and the VP, Accounting as required.
- Provides leadership to Department personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication. Conducts regular staff meetings.
- Trains, coaches, and counsels and provides directives to direct reports, including monitoring of goals and objectives, managing day-to-day operational activities and performing annual performance reviews.
- Provides support and assistance to Department personnel as needed.
- Ensures that the quality and integrity of accounting services are maintained.
- Provides day-to-day oversight responsibility for ensuring compliance with regulatory laws as they related to functions within the department to include Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laudering Act and USA Patriot Act compliance.
- Supports the VP, Accounting and CFO for external audit/exam requirements and requests.
- Ensures that appropriate levels of confidentiality are maintained.
- Helps promote positive business relations with outside vendors.
- Aids and advises branch and department managers in handling accounting entries.
- Coordinates functions with other departments to help ensure accurate accounting records.
- Assists and supports Credit Union personnel. Responds to questions and information needs.
- Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
- Attends and participates in all meetings, trainings, and committees as required
- Stays informed of trends and changes in the accounting and tax fields.
- Completes special accounting projects as assigned
- Participates in community and civic events to promote awareness of Credit Union in the community.
- Ensures that department work area are assigned equipment are clean, secure, and well maintained.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- Financial and accounting statements, records, and reports are accurate and timely. Management is provided with useful and informative reports and data. The Credit Union’s financial position is accurately conveyed.
- Appropriate department policies and procedures are developed and updated as needed.

- Thorough industry accounting practices and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of governmental regulations and reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of related auditing functions.
- Technical understanding of automated accounting and other industry information systems.
- Knowledge of operations in a financial institution.
- Minimum 3 - 5 years’ accounting experience.
- Minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience preferred.
