The Machinist is responsible for operating a variety of machining equipment in order to fabricate high quality, precision prototype components and to grind rolls used in manufacturing processes.
Education & Experience Requirements
Job Responsibilities
- Operate machining tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders (CNC and manual) in order to produce tooling from established blueprints for use in FWM manufacturing processes.
- Provide technical expertise during the design process for new tooling.
- Mechanical refinement of tooling, as determined necessary through the production of prototypes, in order to quickly establish tooling that can be used in production when proven reliable and valid.
- Set up and operate cylindrical grinders to achieve tight tolerances using preset standards for parallelism, concentricity and surface finish, selecting grinding wheels, adjusting grinding wheel speeds, and determining grinding feeds as necessary.
- Set up and operate surface grinders, manual and automatic.
- Operate measuring instruments (micrometers, indicators, and surface meters) in order measure accuracy to plus/minus .00001.
- Disassemble and assemble tooling as necessary in order to troubleshoot discrepancies, inaccuracies and flaws, created when using the tooling equipment.
- Perform other duties as requested by management
Skills Needed
- Blueprint reading, mathematics skills, and micrometer usage.
- Must have problem solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision and be capable of self-checking completed work.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Fast-paced production environment.
- Exposure to fluctuating temperatures may occur.
- Work hours consist of 40 hours per week.
- Overtime may sometimes be necessary.
- Appropriate PPE must be worn where posted and required.
- Most of the time spent standing or walking.
- Occasional lifting necessary, with assistance when lifting heavy objects.
- Frequent bending, twisting, lifting, and squatting.
- Average weights in production range from 10-25 lbs. Maximum weights may exceed 75-80 lbs. on occasion.
