The Patient Access Trainer develops and trains the staff responsible for scheduling and registration across the organization. The role assures Patient Access Leads are maintained and educated on processes to mentor and support Patient Access staff. The role meets with Patient Access staff to address issues needing further attention and review staff performance. They collaborate with the Patient Financial Services Coordinator to develop communication with Patient Access staff and address potential or chronic concerns.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Assists Patient Access staff and Clinic Managers to determine the needs of the department or clinic prior to training new staff members.
- Maintains knowledge of all aspects of the EHR as relates to registration and scheduling.
- Trains newly hired staff on the EHR Patient Access applications.
- Assists with trouble shooting EHR system issues and the building/implementation of rules and enhancements within the system. Assists in testing and monitoring of system upgrades.
- Creates and maintains a training program including reference materials and manuals to be used in initial and follow-up instruction of staff.
- Assists managers to develop and perform competency audits or use of reporting to monitor registration and scheduling staff performance. Develops reporting to measure performance and identify areas of concern.
- Follows up with additional training or testing as appropriate. Focuses on improvements to customer experience and documentation needs.
Requirements of this position include:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 1 year training experience in both group and individual settings, in technical areas such as computer software.
- EHR system and patient access experience. Experience with written policy and procedures (including use of screen prints and writing with a sensitivity to end-user environment). Experience in medical office or hospital setting.
- Proficient keyboarding skills; ability to operate computer, word processing and spreadsheet software, printer and telephone; ability to analyze problems and reach decisive solutions; organized; attentive to details; ability to make logical decisions when taking into consideration various elements such as cost, time, scope and organizational vision.
