The ideal candidate will have teaching experience, strong subject-area knowledge, and a passion for teaching and discipling young adults in a secondary education setting. SUMMARY OF POSITION, MINISTRY PURPOSE, FUNCTION, AND DUTIES Teacher Position: Fort Bend Christian Academy exists to glorify God through excellence in a college-preparatory, Christian education. It is the mission of Fort Bend Christian Academy to equip students to thrive spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally and physically. Under the direction of the Head of School and each division’s administration, the Teacher serves in a key position of Christian ministry and helps fulfill the school’s purpose by teaching and promoting the Christian faith, providing educational excellence in the school’s courses and academic disciplines, and faithfully performing all other duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS PERSONAL BELIEF & BEHAVIOR Affirm a passion for the intellectual and moral formation of students through Christian education, believing that teaching is pleasing to God, a faithful use of one’s gifts, and a Christian ministry at FBCA. Be a mature Christian who affirms Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, supports the school’s Doctrinal Statement and Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality, and lives a lifestyle consistent with these statements and with Chapter 1 of the FBCA Employee Handbook (Declaration of Values). Participate regularly in worship at a Christian church (Hebrews 10:25) whose doctrine and beliefs are not contrary to FBCA’s Doctrinal Statement. Articulate a biblically centered philosophy of Christian education. Demonstrate a willingness to mentor students and serve as a positive Christian role model to all in the FBCA community (I Timothy 4:12, Luke 6:40). Understand and commit to FBCA’s educational objectives, religious mission, and philosophy of education. Possess the knowledge and ability to convey Christian beliefs, teachings, and values aligned with the school’s Doctrinal Statement, supporting students in the development and maturity of their Christian faith. PROFESSIONAL Hold at minimum a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the subject taught or a closely related field as approved by the division administration; graduate degrees are preferred. Demonstrate appropriate subject-matter knowledge and effectiveness in teaching while maintaining appropriate classroom discipline. Possess the biblical knowledge needed to integrate Scripture into all subjects, imparting both biblical literacy and Christian faith to students. INDIVIDUAL PRACTICES, SKILLS & ABILITIES Demonstrate strong presentation, writing, time-management, and organizational skills. Show dedication to serving students and families from a wide variety of backgrounds. Be self-motivated, hardworking, diligent, and willing to help others. Maintain the physical stamina required to fulfill professional obligations and ensure student safety—including tasks such as climbing stairs, riding buses, lifting common classroom materials, supervising indoor/outdoor activities, and assisting with emergency evacuations. Demonstrate proficiency with computer and technology applications essential to the teaching profession. Communicate effectively in spoken and written English. INSTRUCTIONAL Recognize the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their child’s education and assist them in that task. Teach classes as assigned, following the prescribed scope and sequence as scheduled by the principal. Plan broadly through the use of semester and quarterly plans and objectives, and more currently through the use of a Lesson Plan Book. Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum. Effect student learning through mastery of the subject material by utilizing valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the school’s philosophy. Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, challenging each to do his/her best work. Employ a variety of instructional aids, methods, materials, and technology that provide for creative teaching to reach the whole child: spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional. Plan through approved channels the balanced use of field trips, guest speakers, and other media. Use homework effectively for drill, review, enrichment or project work. Assess the learning of students regularly and provide progress reports as required by the staff handbook. Keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises for a good teaching environment. Inform the administration if unable to fulfill any duty assigned. Prepare adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher.
