The Forrest City School District seeks an experienced, student-centered, and visionary educational leader to serve as Superintendent of Schools. The Superintendent serves as the chief executive officer of the District and is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and success of the school system.
In this district setting, the Superintendent is expected to be a hands-on leader who directly engages with staff, students, families, and the broader community to foster a positive and high-performing educational environment.
Position Overview
The Superintendent serves as the chief executive officer of the Board of Education and the administrative head of all departments in the District. The Superintendent provides leadership to ensure high-quality education for all students and is accountable to the Board of Education for administering the school system in accordance with:
Arkansas law
Regulations and guidance from the Arkansas Department of Education
Applicable federal laws and agency requirements
Board policies governing school operations
While the Superintendent may delegate duties when appropriate, he/she remains responsible to the Board for the results of those delegated duties.
The Superintendent shall serve as Ex Officio Financial Secretary as provided in A.C.A. § 6-17-918(a).
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Compliance and Policy Implementation
Implement policies set by the Board of Education and recommend policy changes when necessary.
Ensure district activities align with established policies, goals, and strategic priorities.
2. Educational Leadership
Plan and implement an educational program in accordance with state and federal requirements and the needs of the District.
Maintain current knowledge of developments in curriculum, instruction, and school law.
Advise professional staff and the Board regarding instructional innovations and legal changes.
3. Board Relations and Reporting
Report regularly to the Board concerning the status of the educational program, personnel, and operations.
Make recommendations for improving instruction, activities, services, and facilities.
Attend and participate in all meetings of the Board, except when his/her employment is being considered.
Prepare, in consultation with the Board President, the agenda for all Board meetings.
4. Personnel Leadership
Serve as liaison between the Board and school personnel.
Make recommendations to the Board concerning personnel employment, discipline, and termination.
Plan and implement an effective personnel evaluation system aligned with District goals.
5. Financial Oversight
Prepare and present an annual budget for Board consideration.
Administer the District’s budget and regularly report on the financial condition of the District.
6. Strategic Planning
Develop short- and long-term goals for the District.
Ensure strategic initiatives support student achievement and organizational effectiveness.
7. Community Engagement
Communicate the District’s vision and mission to staff, students, parents, and the community.
Serve as the primary liaison between the school district and the community.
Communicate effectively with parents, community members, and local organizations to promote support for district initiatives.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or Administration.
Experience teaching at multiple grade levels.
Experience as a building-level administrator.
Valid Arkansas Superintendent License or District Administrator License.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong instructional leadership, financial acumen, effective communication skills, and the ability to build trust across diverse stakeholders.
