Part-Time Project Accountant

We are seeking a Part-Time Project Accountant to support the financial management and performance of client projects, with a focus on accurate job costing, timely billing, project profitability, and budget performance. This role partners closely with client service, operations, project teams, and accounting to ensure projects are accurately budgeted, tracked, billed, and reported.

Essential Duties & Functions

• Monitor project financial performance against budgets and identify profitability risks.
• Track labor, production, travel, vendor, contractor, and other project costs.
• Review project financials and identify budget variances or areas requiring attention.
• Ensure employee time and expenses are accurately coded to appropriate client projects.
• Monitor labor utilization and reconcile time reporting against project budgets.
• Validate vendor invoices, purchase orders, expense reports, and other project costs.
• Partner with internal teams to determine appropriate billing approaches for open projects.
• Prepare and review client invoices for accuracy and completeness.
• Monitor unbilled work, work-in-progress (WIP), and advanced billing to support timely invoicing.
• Support revenue recognition in accordance with applicable accounting standards and policies.
• Prepare financial reports on project profitability, budget vs. actuals, labor utilization, margins, WIP, and project P&L.
• Analyze financial trends and provide insights to support operational decision-making.
• Assist with project forecasting, budget revisions, change orders, and financial planning.
• Partner with accounting, operations, project management, and client-facing teams throughout project execution.
• Support month-end and year-end close activities related to project accounting.
• Provide guidance on job costing, project setup, budget management, and financial best practices.
• Assist with project quoting and other accounting initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• 3–7 years of experience in accounting, project accounting, financial analysis, or a related area.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, job costing, project accounting, budget management, and revenue recognition.
• Experience in a project-based, client-service, or professional services environment preferred.
• Proficiency with accounting, project management, ERP, or financial database systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong overall computer proficiency.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate across teams.
