Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit accurate DME billing claims using electronic health record (EHR) and electronic medical record (EMR) systems, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements.
- Review medical documentation, including medical records and notes, to assign appropriate codes such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes for reimbursement purposes.
- Analyze and interpret DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications to facilitate proper billing procedures.
- Ensure proper coding of procedures using CPT coding standards and accurate diagnosis coding with ICD coding systems.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies, resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, claim submissions, payments, and correspondence with insurance companies.
- Stay updated on industry regulations, coding changes, and payer policies to ensure ongoing compliance and optimize revenue cycle management.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing, preferably within a healthcare environment that involves DME or similar specialties.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical coding (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10), and DRG classifications.
- Familiarity with EMR and EHR systems used for billing and documentation purposes.
- Experience with medical collection processes and resolving insurance claim denials efficiently.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex medical records accurately.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members and healthcare providers.
- Prior experience in a medical office setting is preferred but not required.
