Job Overview:
Provides excellence in customer service to Forest Highlands Golf Club Members and Guests. This position provides swim instruction to members, their children and guests for all ages. The primary focus of the Swim Instructor is to facilitate lessons to members using guided and specific curriculum that teaches water safety and swimming skills
Essential Functions:
- Customer Service – Assist members with recreation program and service information. Provide prompt, polite and professional service to the membership (customer). Maintain a professional appearance by wearing the appropriate uniform at all times. Maintain a clean, sanitary and safe environment.
- Operations –
o Create and manage the daily sign in/out sheet for all participants including (but not limited to) all aquatic equipment.
o Know, understand and be able to convey all aquatic rules to those utilizing any of the aquatic facilities.
o Complete any assigned duties to better serve all Forest Highlands members.
o Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
o Create and complete daily checklists and job duties to ensure completion. o Maintain continuous visual monitoring of participants.
o Respond calmly and appropriately to all incidents, accidents or emergencies and immediately notify a supervisor
- Swim Lessons:
o Engage each member and answer all lesson and scheduling inquiries.
o Instruct those students who signed up for swim lessons during the allotted time.
o Coordinate all private and group swim lessons throughout the season.
o Swimming instruction work involves teaching and evaluating all age groups and all levels of swimming, including specialized areas of instruction o Pool Supervision involves the effective supervision of all members, administration of first aid, performance of routine facility maintenance, and other related duties as required.
- Other: Attend bi-weekly and/or monthly meetings and be able to complete other tasks as assigned within the Recreation Department as needed.

Minimum Requirements:
- Two years of High School or High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Previous swim instruction experience
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (opportunities to obtain these are available through Forest Highlands upon being hired)
- Clean back ground check
- Clean driving record
- Basic knowledge of pool facilities, country club and golf course operations
- Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
- Must be self-motivated with a positive and professional attitude
- Organized, able to work in a busy environment where the priorities are changing
- Ability to perform a wide variety of tasks during busy times while working flexible hours with enthusiasm
- Must be reliable
- Water Safety Instructor Certification
- 1 to 3 years of experience in Aquatics
Preferred Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Swim Coaching experience
- Aquatic Emergency Care Certification
- Lifeguard Certification
- 1 to 3 years of related experience in a private club; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions; skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively with guests, management, the general public and other employees of the Company.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Flexibility in schedule.
- Perform a continuous 500 yard swim
- Two minutes of leg only treading
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs regularly; up to 50lbs occasionally and to lift overhead and push/pull.
- Must be able to frequently walk, sit, stand, bend, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear, stoop kneel, crouch, adjust vision accordingly (close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception)
- Work in an upright standing position for long periods of time.
- Exposed to outside weather conditions including low and high temperatures.
- Continuous ability to talk and hear.
