Role Overview

We are hiring a Staff Accountant / Controller to operationalize the accounting function. This role will manage accounts payable, cash flow planning, balance sheet accuracy, bookkeeping, sales tax compliance, and financial reporting across all revenue channels. You will close the books monthly, track week over week financial health metrics, and build clean, automated systems. You will work directly with the founders and fractional CFO. You will have the option to bring on an assistant or virtual accountant to support repeatable or administrative workflows.

You must thrive in a fast growth, direct to consumer business. You must be highly detail oriented, structured, accurate, and organized with strong follow through. The ideal candidate has experience with CPG or ecommerce accounting, inventory reconciliation, and AP/AR management across multiple platforms including Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, and TikTok Shop.

Responsibilities:

Accounting and Reporting

• Accurate weekly and monthly bookkeeping
• Maintaining and updating the general ledger
• Full month end close including financial statements and reconciliations
• Preparing weekly P&L snapshots, cash position, margin performance, and balance sheet updates
• Maintaining prepaid expense and fixed asset schedules
• Tracking and reporting COGS, discounts, fees, payment processor deductions, and refunds

Accounts Payable and Cash Flow

• Paying all invoices, suppliers, creators, agencies, and vendors
• Executing wire payments, tracking payment confirmations, and maintaining payment logs
• Reviewing vendor invoices for accuracy, errors, or incorrect charges
• Preparing and maintaining a rolling 13 week cash flow forecast
• Weekly reporting of cash on hand across banks and payment processors

Revenue and Inventory Accounting

• Revenue reconciliation across Shopify, TikTok Shop, Amazon Seller Central, and subscription platforms
• Ensuring correct revenue recognition timing and accounting treatment
• Weekly and monthly inventory tracking and reconciliation
• Maintaining visibility on units in production, units in transit, and units available to sell
• Working with operations on inventory forecasting and cost accuracy

Compliance, Tax, and Controls

• Managing and submitting sales tax filings across applicable states
• Working with external tax partners on corporate filings
• Supporting audit prep, reviews, and documentation requests
• Implementing controls, policies, and procedures for scaling complexity

Systems and Process Improvement

• Improving speed and accuracy of reporting over time
• Documenting workflows and building repeatable processes
• Identifying gaps in systems and implementing automation
• Potentially hiring and managing a finance assistant to support recurring workflows

Preferred Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, CPA preferred
• 4 to 6 years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience in a CPG, ecommerce, or high volume transactional environment
• Strong understanding of GAAP
• Proven experience with inventory accounting and multi channel revenue models
• Experience with Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, or TikTok Shop strongly preferred
• Knowledge of multi state sales tax obligations
• High proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets
• Experience with QuickBooks or Xero required
• Self starter who can learn systems quickly and work with minimal oversight
