Position Overview

We are seeking a Field Service / Commissioning Technician to support the commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and ongoing operation of an innovative, utility-scale energy storage system in Weirton, WV.

The project has completed construction and is entering the commissioning phase. The technician will work closely with engineering and commissioning teams to monitor equipment performance, perform field inspections, identify operational issues, and assist with troubleshooting and repairs.

As this project involves emerging energy storage technology, the ideal candidate will be comfortable working with new systems, identifying equipment issues, and supporting ongoing testing and operational improvements.

Previous battery energy storage or commissioning experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with backgrounds in renewable energy, conventional power generation, or similar industrial energy systems are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support commissioning, startup, testing, and operation of utility-scale energy storage systems.
  • Perform equipment walkdowns, inspections, and routine operational checks.
  • Monitor equipment for abnormal conditions, including unusual noises, vibration, mechanical issues, and equipment malfunctions.
  • Respond to equipment alarms, communication failures, and operational issues by performing field inspections and reporting findings.
  • Assist engineering and commissioning teams with troubleshooting, equipment adjustments, repairs, and performance testing.
  • Inspect electrical and mechanical equipment, including pumps, piping, actuators, controls, and associated systems.
  • Verify equipment operation and communicate observations to engineering personnel.
  • Document equipment conditions, deficiencies, test results, and corrective actions.
  • Support maintenance and repair activities as systems transition from commissioning into ongoing operations.
  • Follow established safety procedures when working around electrical equipment, chemicals, and industrial machinery.

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with power generation or energy systems, including solar, wind, battery energy storage, natural gas, coal, nuclear, or other industrial power generation applications.
  • Familiarity with grid-connected equipment, inverters, generators, or power conversion systems.
  • General understanding of power generation equipment, electrical hazards, and industrial safety practices.
  • Mechanical and/or electrical aptitude with experience inspecting, maintaining, operating, or troubleshooting industrial equipment.
  • Ability to recognize abnormal equipment conditions and communicate findings to engineering and maintenance teams.
  • Experience performing equipment walkdowns, inspections, and basic technical documentation.
  • Understanding of safe work practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
  • Comfortable wearing required industrial PPE and working around chemical systems. Site-specific training will be provided.
  • Ability to work independently in the field while coordinating with engineering and project teams.
  • Willingness to travel and work approximately 60 hours per week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous commissioning, startup, or equipment testing experience.
  • Experience with utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, or control systems.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA, industrial networking, or communication protocols.
  • Experience supporting pilot projects, prototype equipment, or newly installed systems.
  • NFPA 70E electrical safety training.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

Additional Project Information

The project is transitioning from construction into commissioning, with ongoing testing, troubleshooting, and operational support expected throughout the assignment.

Because the technology is relatively new, technicians should anticipate hands-on involvement in identifying equipment issues, monitoring system performance, and working alongside engineering personnel to resolve operational challenges.

This is a field-focused position suited for individuals who enjoy hands-on technical work, troubleshooting, and supporting the startup and operation of power generation and energy storage
